I'm confused? Orr or Gretzky? There both so good I cant decide! I don't know! I don't know!
By: appistappis. on 07 Jan 09, 01:06:07
I've seen them all.....not even close BOBBY ORR
By: topfuel1963. on 05 Jan 09, 04:10:30
Orr could come up today and set the same records. Fantastic skater...speed...more than most forwards he played against with unbelievable agility and balance, coupled with his stick handling and passing skills, a quick release of his wrist or slap shots. Orr was an incredible two-way player who could take the body when needed but could also take a hit. And where's Wayne?....circling at center ice waiting for his outlet pass. Wayne was a center ice diva. Orr was a complete player...best ever.
By: elmoflash. on 04 Jan 09, 23:58:36
Duguay would probably win the hair competition. Anyway I think if there's a player that could play in any era and be a dominant player all around, it's Messier.
By: ferrett6. on 04 Jan 09, 05:32:01
alright, noone knows what to say!if it was so easy to score when orr and gretzky played, why did noone else dominate like them? you cant argue who is better because htey are 2 different positions! they were both legends at what they did. theres no point to tell anyone else they are wrong. do you think they care what you think or that you are going to change their minds? everyone shut up and keep your shit to yourselves
By: illiduun. on 04 Jan 09, 01:36:20
Ppl seriously dont think Orr would dominate like this in todays NHL, do they? Today the standard are so much higher a defenceman could never do this may it be Orr himself. Lemeiux is for me the best Canadian player since he played when the sport was much more evolved. Well now I sound like I think he sucks but I have him as #2 of Canadian players. But I don't really understand ppl who says No one can ever become as good as him. Ofc no one dominate like that because Nhl is so much better now
By: abbacoins. on 03 Jan 09, 04:19:17
well congrats, you were a gifted new born baby being able to understand the game of hockey when you entered the world in 1967! (which is kind of the "mid-60s") anyways all three of those players are awesome, I'm sticking with #4 as #1.
By: midaszone. on 03 Jan 09, 02:57:54
Neither. Lemieux was the best player I ever saw and I've been watching hockey since the mid-60s. No one could dominate a game like Lemieux, no one had his natural skills. Orr was fun to watch and I would rank him ahead of Gretzky. Gretzky is many rungs down in my book because he played in a very weak division most of his career and he played with 'special privileges'. If he had to endure the pounding Lemieuz got he would have been average at best.
By: deepthreat. on 02 Jan 09, 16:57:09
At their best Orr was clearly the better player than Gretzky. Orr was the best offensive, defensive, and clutch player in the league at his time. How many athetes can say that in ANY sport ? Maybe Jordan ? Gretzky had the better career because of longevity alone.
By: a3her. on 30 Dec 08, 07:25:30
Ron Duguay maybe..huh?? Trust me..Orr dominates in all 3 zones in all eras of hockey!! Upstairsmaid has it right..big time.. those who played beside him realized they were not in his league..and most times he was hurt, recovering, or about to get another surgery!!
By: UpstairsMaid. on 30 Dec 08, 04:15:51
here's the deal. grtez would say that orr was the best. howe would say he was the best. hull said orr was the best. summit series - every player on team canada was blown away by orr - even though his knees were so bad he could hardly walk. gretz desarves all kinds of recognition, as does lemieux, laflur, the rocket etc. it's just that orr is the best ever.
By: jasonjung. on 29 Dec 08, 22:42:58
Nice choice of music. LOL Anyways, to sum up the discussion... Gretzky was a great player Orr was a great player There is no way to find out who was the greatest. Lets say today's players could play against the players of the past. I bet you someone out of nowhere (someone we would not consider as the greatest) would dominate in that competition.
By: matt75hooper. on 29 Dec 08, 13:05:56
Every game that Orr was on the ice---his team scored 2.58 goals per game. Every game that Orr was on the ice the opposing team only scored 1.18 goals per game. These numbers signify he was the most dominant player in the history of hockey. When you consider Orr played shorthanded in many of those games, the numbers are even more staggering. When Gretzky left Edmonton---the Oilers promptly won another Cup. The Bruins are still waiting.......
By: matt75hooper. on 29 Dec 08, 12:37:20
Idiot. Orr retired and Gretzky turned Pro just about the same time. Am I to believe the eveolution of hockey skates and pads changed overnight ? If it was an easier ERA for Orr, explain why no one else was lighting up the score card ? Explain why there were fewer, not more goals scored from 1950 to 1970 than 1980 to 2000 ? I need not bash Gretzky or his ERA to lift up Orr. You should know one simple fact of sports ; Great players would be great in any ERA.
By: a3her. on 29 Dec 08, 05:45:53
Ahh, another one. Anyone can light it up?? Yet so few did..unlike the gogo 80's in the wild wild west..Lanny scores 66..Nichols gets 150..they are classic "anyone's". By my recollection 99 is called "the great one end of the ice"..he was phenomenal on Offense!! The other two zones..huh..there are other zones..hmmm. Orr ruled all three zones like no one in history..before or since..He helped a team win 2 stanley cups..hadn't made the playoffs..finishing last for years. Assists..not goals for 99.
By: paranoidandreid. on 29 Dec 08, 03:46:15
Orr is the only defenseman to ever win a scoring title. He has the greatest +/- in the history of hockey, and has more points in a single season than any other defenseman. He won the norris nearly every year he was eligible and changed the way that defense would be played forever. Without him there is no bourque, no coffey, no leetch, etc, etc, etc. Greatest hockey player in history. Case closed.
By: sportzdude7. on 29 Dec 08, 01:28:45
song?
By: basaraba13. on 28 Dec 08, 20:45:16
your a fool. anyone could light it up when people are using flat bladed sticks, have leather skates and the goalie pads are half the size that they are now. if orr was better than gretzky than im guessing they would have called him the great one. and your trying to say that orr can make a high light reel withought scoring well woopdy fuckin dew he made a reel but didnt help his team worth a shit. then theres gretzky who scored pretty well more goals than any one made points while making reels.
By: BilliieBobSmith. on 27 Dec 08, 01:25:22
Oh and btw, retire # 4 league wide now!
By: thependergast. on 25 Dec 08, 17:28:55
"micholuk4orr"-how about 10 art ross trophies,9 hart trophies and 2 conn smythe trophies that gretzky has. As a hockey fan you should have no right to ever call great players like gretzky wussies.Thats like calling Usain Bolt slow. The Great One is the best forward to ever play the game and Orr is the best defencemen and Brodeur is the best goalie. You can never crown one certain player as the best to play the game because of the respective eras that they played in.
By: a3her. on 25 Dec 08, 09:13:08
Hey Highlander..wow..great minds think alike!! I too see these Montreal teams as some..if not "the" greatest gathering of hockey talent ever..even now it hurts a little to type it. But look who they beat and look at the roster. Orr on the other hand was and still is the greatest to ever lace on a pair of blades..He dominated all 3 Zones like no one before, during and since!! I chuckle when some consider "the great one end of the ice" a contender to Orr's throne!!!
By: thecasualgamer. on 25 Dec 08, 06:02:18
