i love the dice collection man, really cool. I've only just began to try and play Dungeons and Dragons but I can only get two of my friends to join me so we'll probably try to do a 2 person party and attempt to modify the pre-laid out campaigns as neccessary. There will be a lot of modifications taking place. But enough of that... I really liked your video and I wish I could gather a group of people as you have.

and yeah, the d100 is one of the more useless dice in my collection, and I only have it for completion's sake. not that it's that hard to read, but it's definitely cheaper to go with 2d10. however, even the d10 is not a true platonic solid, which brings its randomness into question. the truly most random solution would be to use 2 d20s, and 11 = 1, 12 = 2, etc.

Good video. I enjoyed the video, but I don't really understand a planetary d12. I know you could get horoscopes using the Zodiac, but I don't realy see where planets come in. Anyway, why not just use 2d10 as a percentile than use the D100? I am sure it is much, much cheaper, and you cant really tell the number it shows, either. Love the huge d20! 4/5

yo, geek respek. love the planetary die. no hate on Pluto, may be a planetoid now, but its the granddaddy of 'em. Depending on your purpose (i think you said 'prediction') you could consider it representing all dwarf planets, just Pluto (there isn't as much mythology and meaning attached to the others), or the "Unknown" or "Beyond".

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Are you saying that we start claiming what is not art? I would say that's a bold move, as I have said before, because no one can know exactly what another subject would consider art. As such, no one can really say what everyone would deny as art. I think rather than setting limits and boundaries, we should be clearing spaces to allow for more art, not less.

I understand that you meant objective analysis, but there can be subjective analysis. Why shouldn't subjective experiences be viewed as they are then? I see no communication in art necessarily and therefore cannot include it in a definition. As for aesthetics, that's really just a name for what the experience other people have with art. I would say that any subject would feel the definition of "aesthetics" is lacking when it comes to pinning down the experience at hand.

The way I'd interpret Aristotle's claim, is that intangibles like philosophy and art might not have a direct use, but it is their supposed detachment from physical labor that allows them to transcend and become objective, above the level of the mundane, the material, and the corporeal. Not everything has a purpose. Aristotle said that philosophy was the greatest practice for a human being because it is the most useless. I would say that people often create art with a purpose, but that does not mean it serves it. I would also say that from what I know of artists, they create simply because they have to with no other purpose needed.

I do agree with you, which is why I said "art doesn't exist." But that would depend on how one defines art. We're back to whether or not art has any use. I don't think human beings do anything that has no purpose. I don't believe any art is created just to be art, but it is always part of some other purpose.

I agree with you that a man-made gallery is not necessary for art to be art. But as soon as the subject declares something to be art, he has created a mental gallery around it. I'm curious though: would you include totally natural phenomena in your definition of art? Notice how I excluded anything created by God. I don't think any situation should detract from the subjects aesthetic experience of anything. Just because someone decided at one point that part of the definition of art includes the gallery setting, does not mean that that must be included for all individual subjects. As such, I think art can exist in any environment, under any condition so long as there is an experience to be had.

While I think you're right that seeing things in a gallery versus, let's say graffiti on the side of a building is a different situation, the former is simply a human construct where we tell ourselves that one of the criteria for art is that it is part of the "system" meaning it is available through a gallery, which almost legitimizes the work as art, as well as other things (the appearance of the artist, how they are regarded by their peers, etc).

I would just like to add that both the artist and the patron are subjects, and also that the "situation" where we confront art is largely a construct, with the real aesthetic experience happening within the subject.

Yes, term comes from terminum, and terminus, Latin. A word used in a particular field of study. Often, terms are univocal ( contrasting equivocal ). Auxiliary verbs and articles are not terms. Terms do not carry connotation unless they are wrongly but widely used. Senses of words are written by lexicographers according to that dictionary's sources. Whether that office decides to use a specialist, a lexicographer will still decide how such a definition reads.

Puns aren't terms, but they can have an effect on how a term is defined. I think though, that "terms" are a conscious attempt to limit the meaning of a word, so puns would be ruled out. Puns would be a source of ambiguity, which terms try to eliminate.

I read about so many poets who died young, or died in obscurity only to be rediscovered long after their death. Also, I think it has an effect on the finished product, whether the poet expects to do well in society, but maybe that's just bad poets.

If one were to disagree, one would probably argue that the work/writing is a way of keeping thoughts static, but really that is impossible since the work/writing is without meaning until being read, and since the interpretation is forever changing (if we read something twice we alter our understanding), the author´s "speech act" originates from his thoughts, not his hand...
