And by the way, emo was pretty underground. It wasn't trendy enough for MTV to know what it was. There was a totally underground midwest scene and westcoast scene that was hugely popular for people in the know (mostly punks) but never made it to major labels whatsoever.

MTV just mislabeled bands that played with emo headliners as emo, and shit like dashboard confessional and then goth crap got called emo. This is real emo right here during the best emo days, which was probably the mid 90s to 2001 or 2002. I was a part of the entire scene as it happened, and the scene is prior to youtube's existence, so telling it like it is transcends youtube comments.

mainly emo was a branch of nerdy kids that wanted to make music and show expression thats like the 2nd generation i say and 1st was more punk aka emotive mtv dont make trends they follow what most kids do and sell out and make prodcast with mainstream fake bands i agree on the bottom this is just music and if you keep fighting about it your just like all the youtube d bags just sit down and listion im just proving a statement

I was lucky enough to see The Get Up Kids live a few times but I'll never forget the very first time. It was 1997 at CBGB's. I still don't know what they were doing on that bill, they played with Spazz, Monster X, and 97A. Talk about being the odd man out. Braid was there, too, so I guess they weren't the only oddballs that day. Man, I sure do miss the good old days.
