Aylesbury Woolworths eulogy. The end of an era as the store closes Posted by: SimplyPaul
Video duration: 301 seconds December the 27th 2008 was a dark day. It marked the passing of a giant of the High Street; Woolworths. Aylesbury's branch had moved to the Friars Square shopping centre in 1970. Today was the day it closed for the last time (TBC) Having worked for retail firms as they went bust and knowing it's not much fun, I'd like to wish the staff the very best for the future. On Days Like These. The forbidden love between man and motor Posted by: SimplyPaul
Video duration: 151 seconds I bought my Robin Hood III kit car as a pile of bits when I was 25. Having got jolly with my tools for three years, the end result is a thing of beauty, I think. This is my passion, my mistress, my muse... You get the picture. The music playing over this film of me enjoying my motor is by Matt Monro. On Days Like These was used over the opening of The Italian Job in 1969. A tour of Prisoner locations in Portmeirion Posted by: SimplyPaul
Video duration: 810 seconds Inspired by Catherine Nemeth Frumerman's book, On The Trail Of The Prisoner, I recorded this guide to Portmeirion's Prisoner filming locations while staying in Portmeirion. Shot in 1966 and 1967, this classic series made good use of the quirky architecture of the unusual hotel as 'The Village'. Good video. So sad to see the wonder of woolies disappear forever.

You are really good with videos; you made me nostalgic of Woolworths even if I didn't really shop there! :-)

did you know that they are selling the shelving units at the woolworths by me! it closed today...
By: Butchuk2007. on 29 Dec 08, 23:46:48
I must admit that I didn't use Woolworths much in the past few years, but having grown up with it, it's going to be a little strange to see it disappear - especially as our local one is huge...But then our local C&A was huge too...Now it's a road to Asdas.

i didnt like that shop at all, gonna be weird it not being there now, wonder what will replace it

It's not like leaving a tip - the staff weren't going to get the pound, no matter what. Put it this way, a stack of ex-display, used, grubby DVD cases at a car boot fair; would I pay a pound for them? No. Especially not if displayed under a big sign saying 90% off. FYI I bought two packs of new DVD cases from Woolies the day before, for 78p the pair. They should only have been 60p, but I didn't complain because they were still worth 78p to me. The used ones weren't worth a pound. Hence, no sale.
By: 1jonners. on 28 Dec 08, 22:00:17
Oh come on, that was very tight!! You were not prepared to pay £1 for those DVD cases. I have bought things in my local Woolies for 70% off, but the discount was not taken off, but I wasn't complaining because of the problems the staff have faced over the last few weeks. Shame on you!
By: rhyst6969. on 28 Dec 08, 11:09:01
:-( Good old Woolys lol. I'm only 15 but i will still miss it.
