and you need a water heater in winters or else it will have no appetite.

i have a baby common snapper. I feed them minnows or worms. If they can't tear the food into smaller bits, you should help him cut it up. Feeding live food is also a good idea, since it will help him build up his killer instincts. Only feed it once every 2 to 3 days. nice tank settup

The tank looks good. The filtration is very important. A baby common snapper will not open its mouth. Make sure to keep the water warm enough. If he is too cold the he will probably not want to eat.-commercial pellets can be fed to the turtle. Don't rely on the as his main food source

I have a baby common snapping turtle. The will usually eat minnows and earth worms. I don't recommend goldfish because they are high in fat and are dirty.

um. i would say give it to a zoo something of that nature. Or you could just give it away to someone who would care for it like a friend, sell it but that might be illegal like where i live.....do what u think is best

he will get active, mine wasnt that active at first. you can put alittle more water then that, what do u keep him in? and well i hope you turn the light off at night. they do shed in water mine sheds alot and u dont need the filter as long as u change the water more often

my snapper loves to eat goldfish, shrimp, and commercial pellets. I dont know how healthy this is but He loves gravy train dog food.lol.. its cheap and has a lot of protein ..ITs turkey chunks. HE likes it so much he will do just about anything to get it. you can pick up a can for 44 cents and it will last forever! im only feeding it to him as a treat right now because i need to research into it more.

I keep my snappers water temp around 70-74F. Hes very active and eats like a horse! hes around 4 inches now and lives in a 100 gallon aquarium. he doesnt bask much but lovet to hide under logs.

I have had many commons before, looks like a good setup for now. Good foods are rosies or even turtle pellet foods. Shedding a lot is b=very normal if they are constantly eating since they grow big very fast. Heaters are helpful if you want to keep him active, but they do fine in water from 50 degrees and up since they live in very cold parts of the world ( Wisconsin, Canada, Minnesota, a lot of other places ) A basking light for commons isnt necessary but your may keep your turtle happier.

By: Sportzkid1010. on 21 Sep 08, 21:49:02
thanks....an is it normal to be sheding alot??also he has some stuff on his stomach idk if its alge of fungus or whatever..would that be bad?
By: spikedude2091. on 21 Sep 08, 18:55:31
if its true that its a week old then it is perfectly fine! baby snappers have this mucus inside their stomachs that they keep inside for about 2-4 weeks, i wud keep the snapper in a small plastic box with water very shallow, just covering up the turtles shell so it is fully under water so u can see the mucus that they crap out and thats when they start to eat, cus the mucus keeps them full for those 2-4 weeks so indstead of looking 4 food she cud look 4 a place 2 hide and know her surroundings

i havnt tried crickets yet, but i do try to feed him worms, fish, he ate a turtle pellet yesterday...I got a heater and it seems to be helping..i also have a res and he was alot easier to take care off and thanks!
By: NickWR173. on 21 Sep 08, 17:39:24
i have 3 res and 1 iguana and 3 snakes and 1 leopard gecko...(im experienced) ...what have you tried? if you havent tried crickets try them, put about 30 of the crickets in there and watch.. the reason this should work is that the crickets make a lot of movement...if this doesnt work, fill the tank with 60% water and put fish in...check out my videos of my tanks to get a good idea search "nickwr173" and my vids will pop up
