I'm a little confused by your comment. I've never gotten any homo-erotic imagry in the video or lyrics. If it's not too much trouble can you point some out? it's interesting how he uses deliberately homoerotic imagery in this song (the whole song is about succumbing to a male lover or a male lifeforce)... and yet - as far as i know - he's straight. the fact is this: in the 1980s homosexuality was incredibly fashionable with the 'indie' crowd...good thing too - because it encouraged artists like morrissey, tennant, stipe and co to do their best work... the bunnymen were very good in their day - one of the best bands of the era, under-rated..

Good times... this is the first song which had me intrigued in delay/echo efx. David Gilmour, Andy Summers and U2's Edge may have popularize the device but here, guitarist Daniel Ash managed to use this to eerie, creepy effect (pun intended). It sound like a horde of bats swirling around Dracula's castle or at least the reverberation of its kooky interiors. No church organs needed.

I believe it was going for minimalism, mostly as a reaction to the elaborate music of bands like Queen and Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, whom Punks and New Wavers were reacting to and against. I like both kinds of music myself, but will not tell you to not think this is boring. At least you listened to it and made up your mind based on the song itself, and that's more than a lot of people do.

No, but maybe how to find the difference between boring and beautiful: try sitting in a club that looks like a dark hole (and also smells like one) with lots of drunken people wo listen to punkmusic most of the time and start get a little depressive and then hear this song so loud that the sound vibrates in your teeth. I love this song, but I fell in love with Bauhaus when I heard Shes in parties. Try it (and try it loud and in bad mood) and maybe you'll find a way to like Bauhaus ;)

to kjhgl1, This song is a tribute to the late great Bela Lugosi. If you need ot know who he is, go google him. The soundscape is meant to be sparse and forboding. This song is regarded by many to be the begining of what we now call, Goth. (Your actual milage may vary) Personally, I think its way better than the manufactured crap that spews out the radio that we're told to like and buy.

Well I don't think you can be misinformed about taste. I just don't see what is so exciting about 7 minutes of a repetitive 3 note baseline with some sparse and generally vacuous guitar tinkering, and a singer whose primary concern appears to be image.
