Nice song. I saw them once in Albany NY 1994 plus or mine, totally awesome, been a fan since 72 but really in 1978 a kid at Syracuse U where I was attending, introduced me to the Moodys! Although I was a quite a fan before, that sealed it. I've enhanced my life since with their sounds blairing from my stereos. Great Band.. interesting lyrics in those early albums nice sounds ......

um dylan sold the f#ck out. come on, a victoria secret ad? also you have to take in to consideration that the majority of dylans career is totally awful. from the late 70s on, a good dylan record was a very rare occurrence. guthrie on the other hand never lost his edge. his sound stayed pure and he is a national treasure. guthrie should command way more respect than some silly crybaby like bob dylan.

The Led Zeppelin song is a different song because it's a different type of music--there's almost no comparison since both songs sound so little like each other. Thanks for the slideshow to an amazing, evocative song! I've always imagined Grace Slick conceiving this song while walking through the Redwood Forest and realizing just how insignificant the human race is in the "eyes" of a tree. If human life had never formed, the redwoods (and every other tree and plant on Earth) would be completely unaffected. I recently saw Paul Kantner perform with his revitalized Jefferson Starship. How charged I was when they played this song...pure bliss!

In truth, I don't think Grace was referring to global warming as we know it now back in 69 when this song was recorded. Environmental concerns, yes, but more specifically, man's self-importance and the fact that all his great works, thoughts, institutions, etc., mean nothing to an Earth that has had many life forms come and go over its long history. But of course the song can still be interpreted to today's plight and works quite well.

The Moody Blues are my favourite band and I have to disagree heartily with some of the other comments here regarding the 'integration' presented to us. I found it gave an altogether disjointed feel, totally destroying my enjoyment of some of my favourite music. I for one am mightily pleased that this was not part of the Moodies song on their album. It's a great shame as an excellent job had been done to the other album 'Parts' and for me this 'Part' spoils the overall effect.

I first heard this song from this site, and actually bought the album just for this track. I was however disapointed to find that the psychedelic infiltrations of the speech and drums were not part of the original. They are so carefully integrated into the context of the music, that they actually improve the delivery of the message and add that fundermental 'otherworldly' dimension to the mix. I wish it was found on the original.

Wow! Haven't heard this for a while! I'm the biggest Moodies fan. My oldest son is named for drummer Graeme Edge. Really great to hear this music again. Only thing missing is that Moody Blues albums blended one song into another...or into a poem...or a poem into a song. When I hear individual cuts (songs) I think....Graeme's poem begins here. This music helped me get through the toughest times of my life. It's embedded deep in my brain...... The best music of modern times....
