It is not possible to "sing from your diaphragm". Please disregard when people tell you that. The diaphragm is attached to the bottom of the lungs by a type of mucous and descends when breathing only because air fills the lungs, thus creating expansion in the thorax. In addition, the abdominal muscles and muscles in between the ribs are all important in singing properly. I suggest you consult a professional voice teacher about correct breathing techniques.

I JUST watched her 4 vids in the past 30 minutes, and I'm not yet even at an amateur level of singing, but I think from the short exericises I've done, we should try singing slowly and making effort to send air through our windpipes and use the air to sing our music (like a windpipe instrument). Right now, as I'm practicing singing, I can actually hear my breath as I sing. Kim's a great teacher.

First you want to have your feet shoulder length apart, and slightly position *1* foot in front of the other. When you inhale, Make sure all of your energy is focused on your diaphragm, **Make sure you don't lift your shoulders**. For those of you that cant tell, when you inhale/exhale, thats not your stomach filling up with air, its your diaphragm.

Although they were decent tips.. I wish there was more of a tut for developing your voice or hitting the notes better. I can hold a note for a long time and don't run out of breath, I just don't really know if it sounds good or not.. I am in love with this performance, and all the rest of the scenes you've uploaded from this version of the musical. These highschoolers are doing a better job than so many full-grown adults doing the same musical. I'm really sad that you don't have the songs "Facade", "Transformation" or "Alive" up, because I really want to see them. Heck, I'd love to see the entire play. I think people forget that this is a high school musical. They have a tendency to be just this side of god awful, mainly because of a lack of interest in the arts at a high school level. That said, this is a pretty good production, and indeed this fellow is a far better Jekyll/Hyde than the Hoff. :P He simply needs a bit more training. I know how difficult high school productions can be, and this isn't half bad.

Hmm...pretty good Jekyll/Hyde. I only thing that's bugging me is a lot of this production has been copied off of the David Hasselhoff DVD (including the shirt rip off scene). I don't know if it tells you to do that in the original script, but I'm just saying I'm noticing it. It's a pretty good production of Jekyll and Hyde, especially since it's a High School version and not many kids can pull off a hard musical like that. Great job!

Thanks for taking time out to post these videos for us. You can sing pretty good and are a great teacher! Not sure why some people are being so critical..maybe their dad abuses them or whatever?..that seems to be a popular excuse for aggressive behaviour these days, haha:P

okay this is NOT an opera trained voice. no no no. if you want to hear opera trained voices type in real opera singers or even look at videos of people like me who are being classically trained. if you want to learn how to sing just any pop song or whatever then maybe you can watch these videos.

Wow kudos to you for singing when you're all icky :) It was still pretty awesome :) I has a questions though - I don't think I'm bad at singing but I know what to work on...except...Low notes. I really hate to be critical, but it's really hard to take singing advice from someone who wavers in and out of key. You have good vibrato and tone...but definitely need work. I will give you props for singing with a sinus infection though. It's not an easy task. Keep trying though. I'm sure with lessons you'll be able to work through your issues with staying on key. I'm sorry if this offended you. At least i'm trying to be constructive. I sing as well and i'm critical of myself even.

LOL i love how at the end you go "ok..well that wasn't the best" Well your diction is throwing you off, your "sinus infection" is throwing you off, your constant head shaking is throwing you off. and can i say i've watched your videos on "how to sing properly" which was all about the breath, but at the end of your first "song" your breath was a MESS. Your breath has to flow from top to bottom, like a wave.

Dancelovgirl, you're problem is, you're yelling. Because it's coming from the throat, it has to have the smokey sound, not has to, but it generally does. So, to project, try exhaling hard while singing your loudest. Let me know if this helps.

Okay, Personally I don't think I stink at singing. But I just have a couple of problems. Like I can sing high alright, and low and in the middle, but it's just if I try to eject my voice it sort of cracks. Like I'll be singing then using my talking voice then singing. It's like balancing on a edge, and I know I am singing from my throat, not diaphram or stomach or where ever you are supposd to sing from. Any help? BTW, your voice is really good!

The chorus had GREAT voices, but not much personality. It seems like, they move to places and until it was time todo the next bit. They were animated (most of them) when they were switching to their next spot, then they lose it until It's time to move. Lastly, as someone said before, costumes=way too modern. P.S. Jekyll was AMAZING!!!!

This is going to sound bad, but really you did a great job, but what is anyone going to learn from the good stuff but to keep doing it. First, don't try to copy everything from b'way, it isn't always the best, and it's not what theatre is about, you need a little more creativity. Second, yes the guys were good, but they need to work on breathing and accuracy, your priest went flat a couple times and a few soloists did as well.

I thought your school did a great job, and yeah, at least you have guys. We have about 5 at my school and only about....none can sing! We don't have even a small budget either, so I thought it was good, your Jekyll/Hyde was awesome. I wish we could do this at my school, but it's too "risque".

ok well i thought the vocal's were pretty good for the most part. But the costumes were a little too modern for the time period and the choregraphy could of been better, because for the most part you were just in lines...not very visual. But you are lucky that you have plenty of guys in this, my school only has a total of 6 guys at the max!

Just to let all of you who are commenting on this...i performed in this play...i was sir danvers...and granted not everyone is broadway material but what you dont know is that the director was give a crappy watered down version of this play and did everything in his power to actually do the show justice

This song is supposed to be chaotic and scary. I think you guys sounded great but many times, you all got in a line and danced together. I picture this song more like everyone running around and the people in front singing. That way, when the entire cast sang together, it would seem more real. Again, great job!
