He went from the Artful dodger to one rocks best performers. Good guitarist, great vocalist and performer. Don't wanna date myself but, he was one of the comsumate Mods with the Faces - amazing energy at the London clubs. He also knew what chemistry meant in a band, and surrounded himself with solid players. He's much missed. Outstanding video compilation. Good work guys.

Same here! It was 1973. A friend of mine had an extra ticket that I bought for $5.00. I had never even heard of Humble Pie until then. When we got to the Paramount Theatre in Portland Ore. I was bumbed out cuz we didn't have anything to smoke. As soon as the show started joints were everywhere. Pie had the 3 chorus girls you see in the UTube vid Black Coffee. They were the best "live" band I have ever seen! 4th row seats right in front of Marriot. No front band. Just Pie for 2 hours.

man you guys are smokin somthin really good. first Marriot was the one substandard. granted the stones coulda did alot better than Ron Wood but Ronnie was slated to replace Taylor way before Taylor was out. fact is Keef didnt like Mick much because he was so much better than him.Keef and Ronnie were drinkin buddies and keef knew Ronnie would always know his place as 2nd guitar. Not quite true. Ronnie was born to be a Stone and is the ONLY guitarist that can weave a tapestry with Keith Richards. Marriott is fantastic, but in his own right. Not just as a guitarist, but as a singer as well. Remember, Clapton and Beck were there to try out as well, but they are too big to be a part of an ensemble like the Stones. Big name rock stars aren't interchangeable as we would hope them to be in other groups.

I've seen Humble Pie and the Stones and I can attest to the fact that there ain't a stage in the world big enough for Marriot and Jagger. Marriot was a ball of insane energy. Sweating and spitting and going wild. I was standing right in front dodging his spit! He was amazing. If he became a Stone, he would have run over Jagger.

Cool post. From a guitar players standpoint, the awesome Marriot would have picked up and continued the intensity of Mick Taylor era 'Stones. Ron Wood was more intent on playing "Im a Rolling Stone" than his guitar. The 'Stones were never as raw after Taylor left. Stevie woulda been blowing them away all the way until his untimely demise and everyone would have been better for it. RIP Steve ! PS. Do you know Steve Marriot played with Johnny Thunders too ?? How cool is that !?!?! =:^D

De todas maneras sigo sin poder ver el vìdeo, pero ahora se que el problema no reside en que lo hayan retirado, (mis muy limitados conocimientos de inglès, me habìan hecho creer que la expresiòn "is no longer available" pudiera significar que el vìdeo en cuestiòn ya no estaba màs disponible, y eso me llevò a pensar que el que lo colocò lo habìa retirado). indeed. and the who were better live. that's the thing. people want a group both good in the stuido and live. if you really think about it, the beatles were only a studio band. the stones could play live, but in '69 they were kind of experienced with touring, but not enough. by 72 they mastered their live show, but that's where the best would end. i'd say mick lost 'it' because he didn't tour for a year (74 to 75). same thing for daltrey from 78 to 79.

Say what you want about Brian Jones, he could play. Go watch a version of Dead Flowers on you tube where Brian rips it up. But, I love Keith...he's my hero. I'd rather listen to Keith play than Ingwe or Satch...despite the fact that those guys are so much more talented. Keith just knows what sounds good. yes, you're quite right. keith richards loves the interplay between two guitars above all. he makes it very clear in their book "according to the rolling stones"! his main problem with taylor was precisely that their hewas too much of a lead guitarist, not because he outplayed him but because he could not really "blend" their two guitars as he used to with jones...

I just listened to the '73 version and this one back to back- It was brand new in 73' and is 21 years old here in '94- Ramshackle, dirty and raw in '73- Stylised, well-mixed and in proportion in '94- If you were there at either show you woulda loved it and odds on that most of The Stones, past or present, will tell you that THIS version is BETTER- However, the '73 version is a train-wreck and of course, EVERYONE loves a trainwreck!

a rippin' song that is sadly watered down. Mick is barely croakin'. I too love the Stone, have all the stuff, but I've seen them live ever tour since '81 & Mick has been mailing the vocs in since '75. Now he CAN'T do it. Monkey Man, the girl does his scream part...go as a 5 piece again. They can't though. Their versions lately of Cant You hear me knockin' were sad. They still sound good doin the blues, some of the mellow songs...the mid section sounds terrible. No power in his vocals.

the one who choose mick taylor WAS keith. he could have chosen anybody else, or could even have decided to stay the only guitar player. there was no competition between the two. keith played rythm, mick the lead, period. the only problem was that mick was fed up of never being credited as co-author...
