Some people were commenting a while back on why Kenny Burrell didn't take a solo. I think I may have an answer: notice at 4:33-4:35 how the music doesn't quite line up correctly, like the footage was edited. I think that Kenny did take a solo that night, but it was cut from the video due to time constraints.

My mother must have played this version when I was in her womb. I have an inexplicable love for this song sung only by Sammy Davis. I'm soooooo in love with this. Love his voice, his ability to paint the picture of Mr. Bojangles. Sammy does this so well that I get all of the 'visuals' Great story telling.

no. thats not what i ment by knowing where your coming from. i ment the aspect of bringing return to forever to cover return to forever songs...btw mum kicks ass. And Dave Lombardo? Really? I mean, i thought he was good, I think he really fits Slayer too, but i just find Bozzio more inventive and his technique more original (watch that video again, but skip it until later on when he gets to have that percussion jam over that looped conga track, you'll see what i mean). Still, we do share a lot.

Maybe, maybe not. Actually, looking at your favorite vids on YT, i'd say we have a lot in commun. But our tastes are slightly different. I think I'd love and hate at the same time talking about music with you. For exempl, Windowliker is one of the only Aphex twin's songs I don't like. I prefer Sigur Ros to Mùm. I'd pick "Me myself and I" over "eye know" for DeLaSoul and Dave Lombardo over Bozzio with Fantomas. See ? We'll never agree.

I raise my hand. IMHO, Spain is a great song, but the arrangement is horrible. I like the al jarreau singing on the record but he's over-acting here. That crappy 80's epiano synth sound sucks a lot. When pop singers wants to do jazz, they bring the best jazz musicians without even wondering if they'll play well together. When Stan Getz wanted to play Return To Forever songs, he brought Return To Forever. See the Montreux vidz of Captain Marvel tour on YT, you'll notice the difference.

Gonzalo is not a "Chick clone." Although some influences from Chick sprinkle in Gonzalo's playing, I can tell the difference between both styles blind-folded. Both pianists share latin roots, but you really can't compare them. Both have very individual playing styles and grooves. Both Chick and Gonzalo are at the cream of the crop of the highest level in jazz today. Both pianists have influenced my own jazz piano playing to the max and inspired me to practice hours daily now

Not hacking on the speed thing. I'm a fan of Steve Morse, Steve Vai, Coltrane, Parker, Brecker, Shawn Lane, Corea, etc.; all speed demons. It is just not Coryell's normal thing. It seems a bit competitive. It's like Coryell's vibeing off AD's speedyness. Not a bad thing, kinda fun actually. A cool thing live. Why is it when guitarists get around DiMeola they play fast, alternate picked 32nd notes? Coryell does the same in another 'Spain' duo vid. I've been digging Kazumi since "Spice of Life" discs with Jeff Berlin and Bill Bruford from the 80's.

What a GREAT VIDEO!! Damn, I didn't realize how much I missed the "Sugar Man" until seeing this.... He was & is such a mentor as a saxophonist, when I first began playing, I'd close my eyes & pretend I was him playing, taking on his classy, smooth, funky & soulful persona, and I often still bring in his spirit when performing... He was a soft-spoken man of few words, cause he spoke so much via his tenor saxophone!

I saw Nancy Wilson perform this incredible song at Constitution Hall in DC in the late 70's. She blew us all away that evening. We have 11 of her albums and she is absolutely wonderful on all of them. "You Better Go" is another mindblowing arrangement that will thrill you if you've only recently been introduced to her music. Thank you Nancy for getting me through some lonely times when I was stationed overseas. Love you girl!

No critico la musica, critico la actitud de defenestrar el trabajo de piazzolla por el hecho de que hizo algo que rompia con los esquemas de lo comun. La buena musica va mas alla de la epoca y los esquemas y eso es algo que cualquier musico que se precie tiene que tener en cuenta a la hora de juzgar una aproximacion diferente a un genero musical

Wow, this video always makes me smile. I remember being a musician stuck in a serious rock / blues rut, listening to Inside Out the first time. I thought, what r all these wrong notes ? Yet it was full of passion ! Inside Out helped me cross over to a new, chromatic, musical vocabulary, that expresses more accurately what I feel inside. Chick Corea's music has had a huge impact on my life. What a genius.

it may sound like fast rambling to you, but to these crazy bastards it sounds like regular riffs. playing slower has its place and chick and eric definetly do it all the time but i dont think this song calls for it. As for getting bored playing fast, that really doesnt mean anything, cause if your playing wicked licks lick these guys with direction and intention, really fast, then no, you cant get bored playing fast. If you suck, I'm sure it gets boring

It's so great to be able to see this! I'm Kenny Drew's son and am also a jazz pianist. One of the things that I regret never being able to do was a 2 piano concert or recording with my father.I suggested this to him more that a few times but he always seemed ambivalent about doing it. I am so jealous of Hank! He got a chance to play with my dad and I didn't.
