Holmes is the type of guy who seems to say one thing one minute and the opposite the next. Maybe that's just the way the media portrayed him, he kept away from them mostly. I've heard him say disrespectful things about Ali, too: I remember he once classlessly reeled off a list of his personal possessions to show his superiority over the former champ! Many times he seemed like an ignorant goon promoted to the spotlight and not knowing how to behave, but that's just my opinion.

Ali was so tired. He couldn't fight back anymore, so he covered up, or tried to. I read he had taken Thyrolar medications which caused him to loose weight like mad, but drained him of all his strength. He came into the fight I think around 217 pounds, which would have been perfect for a younger Ali, not at this age, with the loss of muscle and stanima, he even said after the end of the 1st round, he knew he was in trouble. Watch the 7th round, Ali got mad at Holmes and for a minute was fighting.

not just shot, the man was shot by a .357 magnum, to even be living after that is amazing in itself, but to keep fighting after that? incredible. he lost 70lbs after the incident. its a shame that many people consider this alis best fight, because williams was really in no condition to fight, so to speak :)

Sadly for Cleveland Williams he died after being struck by a car in 1989 I believe. After all of what he survived he had to die tragically regardless. The BEST knockdown I've ever seen WAS this clip though right at 1:10. That's probably the PRETTIEST combination from Ali EVER!

Yes Ali's assessment of Patterson weaknesses were exact. In the 60's at his peak Ali was so dominant he would predict the round taht he would defeat his opponents. Patterson was a fast and technically skilled fighter who, because he weighed 180-190lbs often struggled against the emergent heavyweights of the late 50's and 60's who were 210 lbs plus and athletic. Interesting that he fought Ali again in 72 and was much more competitive before getting a bad cut. I think that was his last fight.

To be fair, patterson should have been fighting at cruiser weight (or light heavy) but they didnt have those divisions back then. He was great, but he was deffo small for a heavy weight normally weighing around 180/185lbs for his fights

You are only idolizing the man.Sure Ali had an huge impact to the world,but it doesn't mean he was the best boxer of all time. And Boxing made Ali,not the other way around. The Great Champions before him,Patterson,Charles,Louis etc... they had real class in and out of the ring. A chamion should be the king of men. He shouldn't talk like women fighting on streets. You do realize that every single martial art ever to have striking has various forms of striking, that not all of them have a flick, and that physics says a punch with a flick on it can't be more powerful than a punch with actual body mechanics behind it, right? The comment I was replying to said that Bruce Lee would beat Ali in-ring because of a "martial arts punch." Bruce Lee himself believed he could not overcome the size boundary against Ali. Without the belief you can win, you can't win.
