Excellent video! Thanks!! However, don't Maine and Nebraska split their electoral votes per the ballots? - In any case, thank you for providing a simplified explanation of the basic system!

IF no one gets to 270, the House of Representatives decides (and if they can't decide the Supreme Court takes over.)

iweartehpantz, I think voting is in fact important, but it could be a waste of time really. It's just hard to tell these days. For example, I voted democrat this go around and I live in Tennessee. Obviously, my vote had 0 impact since my state is pretty much a pledged red-state, and mccain won our elector votes by a landslide. Did I know that would happen? Yep. Could I have avoided wasting 2 hours to vote knowing it wouldn't matter? Yep. Did I vote anyway? Yep.
By: mecha03. on 19 Nov 08, 20:21:33
Lazykid, you are 100% correct, however this doesn't really happen as the penalty for being an unfaithful elector is pretty severe. So severe in fact, they don't even know what the punishment is yet I don't think! But, nonetheless, you are correct.

Great video. I love its simplicity in terms of presentation, and use of language. However, I think there's one minor detail about the electoral college that should have been added to this video. Although the electoral college of a state generally follows the popular vote to cast their vote, they are NOT required by law to do so. This means that even if there is a landslide popular vote in a state, the elector could still ignore the popular vote, and decide to vote for another candidate.
By: KilliantheKaveman. on 17 Nov 08, 04:24:16
I fucking hate the electoral college.
By: iweartehpantz. on 17 Nov 08, 02:14:58
Why's that?
By: EviISaintNickpart3. on 17 Nov 08, 01:33:28
Voting is a fucking waste of time!

The government and it's laws are set up to protect the rich. Imagine if there was no government, and no property laws. The workers could then take over the factories and run them themselves. This would give the workers greater incentive to do better work, as well as cutting out the middle/top man leading to greater efficiency. F*** corporations. F*** government. F*** hierarchies. Long live anarchy. Power to the people. No justice, no motherf****** peace, lol. :)

I donated to him, and I'm considered to be in poverty. A lot of people donated $5-$200. I can't find the stats that your claiming. I'm not saying your wrong, but posting the source of the stats would be more useful than just saying 70% came from wall street. I do agree, however, that corporations have way too much influence over the government. But, it seems to me that republican politicians seem to be more in bed with them than democrat politicians.

.....now i finally get it!
By: kingacres0. on 13 Nov 08, 08:38:48
Absolutely right! Moreover, money talks! Obama may be a good president but 70% of his donations came from corporate interests and the biggest corporate slice came from...(wait for it), WALL ST.! With over $600 millions from the corporations, who do you suppose has the president's ear? Nader isn't telegenic and he had, what, million dollars? But how much more interesting and informative the debates would have been if he had been present. Follow the money.
