It isn't dubbed - - The video is poorly edited so the words don't match. Even if she was dubbing it (which she doesn't have to for this clean, easy piece) she'd know how to mouth the words to the correct place anyway, since this is a very simple and famous aria.

actually the lyrics translate "-Lascia ch'io pianga la dura sorte, E che sospiri la libertà!- Let me weep over my cruel fate, And that I long for freedom!" I sing this song and i agree its really important to know what the song your singing is about. I got marked down on my last school assesment because i didnt know what it was that i was singing about ( i think the song was latin) and now i have learnt. :) YAY

I think she did this perfectly. This aria ISN'T supposed to be light and fluffy. The lyrics are something like "have mercy on me you've left me to burn in hell. save me from this hell" and such. I think one of the biggest mistakes is to sing this song with a smile on your face. She did good

In response to sfkcbu, I would like to point out that this aria was NOT written for a castrato. The aria is sung by Almirena, a role Haendel wrote for a female soprano, Isabella Girardeau. The roles in the opera written for castrati are Rinaldo and Eustazio

WOW it sound like somebody is more racist than anything. If u dont like them fine, but dont be a racist bigot! They obviously have dedicated themselves to their craft and work hard there are people who enjoy and appreciate them. say what u like but at the end of the day they are still famous and great singers who YOU happen to not like. Mariachi music is whole other genre in itself that people dedicate themselves to. A true musician respects anothers work, that doesnt mean u have to like it.

Vdarte-Are you trying to be the beacon of mediocrity? A good number of GREAT tenors have sung a C# in the final cadence for good reason. Villazon sounds painful above an F# because of his piss poor technique. The reason he's not singing a C# is not because of his desire to adhere to the original score. He just cannot singing if his life depended on it. Not get a clue! Even at age 61 it's not too late.

It is also my perrogative to express my opinion against those who knowingly and willfully debase opera and the excellence for which it stands and who, again, knowingly and willfully continue to do so. What's MEJOR here is Kermit's textbook show on "HOW NOT TO SING". He's decimating an beautiful Italian aria with his hooted, throaty and pushed hispanic voice. What's that assault on the beautiful Italian repertoire by the hispanic mob of of tenors I wonder? If you sound like Fleta, Kraus or Aragall, that's fine. But if you don't, just go sing mariachi tunes and rancheros!

Kermit has transposed this beautiful aria so that he and Netrebko can shout out around a top B and impress unsuspecting and sheepishly applauding audiences. Pavarotti and Freni in 1990 a age >50 didn't transpose in a live performance of La Boheme. And Kermit is supposed to be at the peak of his career. Yet he's the king of transposing like his mentor MINGO (where's the Do?). Pathetic!

Sundaywar1- Did you come up with the BS all by yourself? Domingo tops the list in cracking in transposed operas, and when he didn't crack he just sounded as if he was yelling. Anything beyond an Ab was a stretch for him as a supposed top tenor. And throughout his range he always sounded hooted, throaty, monochromatic and pushed. You may like all that. But it is hardly considered good operatic singing.

Well, it was before when there wasn't enough digital technology... perhaps he was out of tone and I don't believe he would be able to hit a High C without cracking like in other occasions (look for his video when he cracks three times and wasn't even a required High C)

In my opinion, it sounds much better if the tenor goes one octave below the soprano because there's a contrast. If both would sing the high "C", al unisono, the sound tends to get mixed up. Many opera tenors do the same, not only Domingo.

Thrilling! A sweeping, romantic rendition of this terrific duet. Carreras is clearly in some kind of intense trance and totally committed as usual. Caballe is serene in the face of death and as she often is when singing with Carreras, far more involved in what she's doing than she could be. She clearly adores him and it shows in her every movement and reaction. Bravi and thanks for posting!

Best, most exciting, most compelling rendition ever. I really mean it. I never liked Joan's or anyone else's rendition. Just always seemed to affected and mechanic and lifeless. Beverly is obviously thrilled as she is waiting for Carlo to show up. Just thinking about him drives her into song, and she sings this aria..."Oh light of this soul of mine". Can you believe that Bing called her "Vulgar"?! I think that was because he just did not like New York accents in the world of opera (and of couse I mean in her speech - not singing). Nobody sings it this well. Sills is the master of this aria. She is better than Sutherland, forget Battle or Sumi Jo, more fluid, more ease, more precise, a much more beautiful voice and a far better musician. Her dynamics are perfect.

During spring of this year, starting in March, my voice stunk almost EVERY DAY for no good reason. It's now August, and it's still having a few off days. Hi! At your young age your voice could be anything...I wouldn't worry too much about what fach (it will probably change a few times before your 35 anyway), but more on proper breathing, vowels, placement, practicing (A LOT), and studying with a great voice teacher who knows what they're talking about and has produced good singers.

Actually, I dis-agree. She was fabolous in the broadway musical, and they could NOT have gotten a better woman for the role of Mary poppins, but I dont think she would be good in the movie with Rex harrison. ONLY because Audrey hepburn had the personality and such to match Eliza. I agree; she's such a pure singer. Having one of the most powerfull voices in history, you wouldn't tell; she doesn't make the sound thicker than it should be. It's quite slim and pure really. And such humility and earnest in the performance!!

No insults necessary people! She sang this well. She can still knock them dead without the Italianism. Ms. Nilsson was an unrivaled singer who was not afraid to try different territory like Verdi, Puccini and Mozart. Listen to her "Ritorna Vincitor" album on Decca for examples of her Verdi repertoire. Her big dramatic steel voice was of course perfectly at home with Wagner but she sang everything with great flair, passion and intelligence
