I really like the videos of when he was in the prime of his career. He and a few of his fellow writer/performers had so much soul and maturity at a very young age. The 60's were such a rich period of musical creativity and social commentary.

Where do you find in the song anything about racism? your sentence about uned.,poor and lazy white people reaked of racism. Got 2 quick responses both calling me a racist, yet I just stick up for my own Whites & knock down no other race. That shows there is something fundamentally wrong with freedom of speech, which has been stripped from us. Your President Elect church has written on its wall: Dedicated to Black "Africa," not Black America, or America. 20 years of that can't be erased.The church book which says to kill the White enemy. I think Don McLean was saying that the "White America" and "White Race," was dying, and as we view 2008, it looks like the final nails are being put into our White coffin, and during the times shown above until now, the Whites have calmly accepted their demise. I think we agree, you just said it in the long version. The children of the 50's, baby boomers had a dif outlook than the gen who realized the effects of WWII. They had in fact an "innocence" which is what I was trying to say. I think the meaning of Bye Bye Miss American Pie is probably obvious to most older Americans.
