The is right at the juncture when punk gave birth to goth. This EP this was on was released not long before the world 'gothic' gained currency, I remember we were just starting to wear lots of black stuff and getting the look happening (actually Nick already had it back in '78 look at him in his first band Boys Next Door). This was the song that turned me on to Nick Cave. "Her dress floats down the well, where it assumes the shape of a body of a little girl." Wow!

that description of post punk makes no sense. post cannot mean first wave. it has to do with the sound of the music, not when it came out. if you want to get technical, any music after 1976 is post punk.

Thats so true. I saw Iggy a couple of weeks ago. Pure fucking chaos. There is no doubt that Iggy is still feeling it. The crowd see that he,s feeling it and they go crazy (the Stooges kick fucking ass musically too) Thats why Iggy still stands out in our mediocre modern music scene: Belief. With so many phoneys, imitators, Hollywood cocksuckers & shit bands around real music fans want authenticity and integrity more than ever. Iggy delivers where others fail.The man has never been so relevant!!

I saw this live on TV when I was growing up in Dayton OH. The peanut butter was a nice touch. I couldn't believe that idiot TV guy was doing commentary during the song. It was pretty radical for Cincinnati TV in 1970.

However, comparing the Stooges in a direct corollary is tantamount to blasphemy! 1970 has a primal pulse beat backing the most punk rock guitar riff ever created, punctuated with Iggy's unmistakable screeching vocals. It make the Strokes sound like Easy Listening or MUZAK.

You really don't find this song to contain the "essentials" of metal? I'm curious..you may not like the band, but what is it missing in your opinion? You called them punk but this sounds nothings like a Green Day, Sex Pistols, or Bad Brains. I hear a "Megadeth" type vocal, and if you listen to Cowboys from Hell by Pantera you can see the similarities in the "style" of the two songs. I would say Megadeth and Pantera similarities make you pretty metal. What do you think?

I could give a fuck about shithouse bands like Nirvana and The Melvins but I like bands like Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden and Alice In Chains who actually make good music. And I really don't care about the "Grunge" label, but when Buzz Osbourne said "Grunge is commercial garbage" that was a ballsy statement from a guy who fronts a band that has shitty song structures and sucky meaningless lyrics! I think he should speak for his own band (The Melvins) who make garbage NOT good music.
