Wizzygirl:"how did you make the selection of the person? I couldnt see it." I'd use the magic wand tool and adjust the sesativity of it depending on how much of a color you wish to grab. I try and grab everything around the person the right click and select inverse that way now the selection of everything around her turns to selecting her specificaly then edit cut then paste her into the background and select the swimsuit in the same fashion.

I thought this would be an interesting tutorial involving Frank Millers drawing style, but altering the levels of an image dosnt makeu an artist. Frank's style isnt just about black and white, its about how the white and blacks interact, overlap, and still trick your eye into thinking something is there even though he didnt outline our clearly define it, its about your imagination filling in the blanks. Any normal person can alter a pre-exisiting photo, my point is that that isnt frank's style.

I am on CS3 extended but when I apply polar cordinates/rectangular to polar the planet goes a bit upper on the screen and the flares are shown not from the center of the planet but on a bottom right point on the planet... Looks ugly :( Got any tip? Am I doing something wrong?

There's a few things to improve upon: You could have created an adjustment layer after finishing the highlighting in quick mask mode rather than copying the highlights, creating a new layer and then adjusting it. Go layer>>new adjustment layer. Secondly, you didn't feather your selections to make them smoother!
