He uses Photoshop 7 (I would recommend getting photoshop cs3, if you can't afoard it and you would like to learn to become a photoshop artist I would NOT *cough* recommend searching for a torrent of it online with the cracked version of it because that is most certainly NOT leagal) He also uses a genius tablet, its rather cheep but it still gets the job done. It's about $50 but if you want a nice one go for a wacom Intuous3 which is anywhere from $300-$450 for a good sized one.

there is a difference between his painting and a the original 3D version. but the difference is that this program is NOT meant to draw 3D pictures and the result is as good as 3D! This guy is born to be a digital artist. I especially like the face, its extremely detailed.

I just asked 7 students sitting around me on campus what the point of drawing was, nobody mentioned the word REAL. Some answers I got: "I'd say its an outlet for your creativity, a way to give some life to the images in your mind." "a way to share ideas and thoughts of things I made up in my head" The rest were about the same but I'm out of room to post them. To me the only point of drawing is being able to bend the rules, if you only want to draw what is real you may as well take a picture.

I agree with you, but I would surmise that both mediums each have their own unique characteristics. I think that some of the time consuming aspects can be avoided by using a computer, which would make it useful for doing a quick work, but I myself favor paper and pencil :]

You'd be surprised how hard it is to create the same quality of work using a computer. From my observation when you are able to paint using a computer you are able to paint using your hands. But I do agree, I enjoy watching traditional art being made and I also enjoy creating art with traditional methods.

a talented artist does not need the aid of a computer. it is very good but i am a fan of more traditional mediums. mixing paint to find the right color, prelim sketches, using actual tools and not digital technology. you can argue all you want this is just a sign of whats to come. a bunch of graphic designers sitting in an office and not in a studio producing digital art. its sad that the next few generations learning aids will be an apple computer screen and a mouse and not a canvas and brush.

The fact that it's an artist's interpretation of a photograph does indeed make it art. Also the fact the artist is using his artistic knowledge (light, shadow, form, proportion, etc.) to make the image, which has a different quality than a photograph (a much better one in my opinion - because it shows how this artist can put his skills to work), makes it a piece of art. There is NO debate, this is widely accepted as art. If you wanted to argue if it's a masterpiece, then you have a debate ;)

I realize we are trying to get "art" but you can't use the term to justify your reasoning over mine. I don't know how you can say at what point a photo becomes art, is it when a photo is replicated by hand using digital techniques? What are really looking for here is photorealism using a digital program to alter hand drawn lines that are being traced using short term memory from a piece of paper he is looking at. Why not use a real photo and get better results if you are going for realism?

That has to do with the shadows, since it is dark in the picture and Akon has a certain distance from Snoop, considering also that he is black and also have dark eyes, I think darkening his eyes was the correct thing to do, that brought more realism to the pic.
