Dude, he totally failed the physical. He was a weak, skinny kid until his 30s. He also failed the psych exam because of concussion (crashing his bike). Documented fact: John Wayne DID chicken out. When Clark Gable & other leading men went to war he got their parts, moving up from B-pictures. (Documentary on History channel). I got into a total argument over this with some of his kids at the San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara and if I hadnt been 6 months pregnant they would have decked me.

thank you, I know that- what I'm saying is hat it is a pity that one never hears anything about him that he doesn't seem to play any role at all in today's public life- if 'brucee' wouldn't have produced that album, no one -incl. me- would ever have taken notice of Seeger's songs. I hate to say this and I know I'll be crucified, but folks, if you get a bit beyond the aw-shucks corn-pone lyrics, you'd find a very slick and very calculating A/R team behind this man. Did you know that Born in the USA was the beneficiary of the most expensive marketing campaign in the history of recorded music? Yeah, it's outstanding. For me the best song is Into The Fire, the message that it conveys is so moving in that there is nothing to fear in death, that it is a start of a new beginning. I could listen to it all day and the Live In Barcelona DVD is magnifcent, The Rising Tour.

The song was originally written about his hometown of Ausbury Park which has become somewhat of a ghost town. However, the lyrics were so fitting for 9/11 that they were applied to the that event. They weren't originally written for 9/11. However, you can't discard Bruce's feelings towards the event if you listen to the entire album

I think this songs gets ignored amongst Rosalita and the other great songs on Side 2 of The Wild, the Innocent, and the E-Street Shuffle, now 34 years old. Plus he rarely plays it. This is the first time I've ever seen a full band version. The acoustic version is almost too beautiful for words. It makes me want to cry because I'm alive in a world that contains such beauty. Thank God for Bruce Springsteen. Has he done anything else since this album was released in 1973?
