The scene shows the same location as the final scene, with many hints as to what happened there. PROOG(Voice over)At the left we can see ..... PROOG(Contd.)We can see...

A good allegory would be: PROOG: Look Emo, I've discovered nuclear energy. EMO: Cool, we can make a bomb with it. PROOG: You don't know what you're doing. That would be too powerful! EMO: Silence! You're getting in the way of progress. PROOG: Noooooo [kills Emo]. What have I done? Maybe the world isn't ready.

Part 2. Dr. Proog is passing this knowledge on to the younger Emo. The problem is that (and with all real technology) Proog EARNED the knowledge while Emo just INHERITS it, so Emo doesn't have the discipline required to handle it (like Dr. Malcom said in Jurassic Park). So whenever Proog says "Emo!" he's really saying "be careful 007." Emo quickly learns how to use 'the power' and abuses it for his own purpose. Proog has opened Pandora's box and must act before it's too late.

This was fun to come up with. Proog is an inventor or scientist of sorts and Emo is sort of a tagalong protege, so they have a Doc Brown/Marty McFly relationship. Proog has discovered this new realm or protoverse (like the Phantom Zone in the Superman movies) which can be used to create things by using your mind. He's been fiddling with this for awhile which is why he knows his way around while Emo struggles. Emo shouldn't be there at all but coerced Dr. Proog into sharing the discovery.

I GOT IT!... i think... emo represents the curiosity and ignorance of man and the old dude represents some kind of prophet or priest trying to keep him on the strait path i hope im right...

Here's my idea: Proog is trying to show Emo that he was destined to live in a world of order that does the same thing all the time. Emo, not seeing this, becomes angry at this because he sees nothing and doesn't understand how it works causing the world to go into a short moment of disorder. Proog stops him and brings it back to order. I know my idea is crap but that's what I think.

this movie was mainly made to experiment on open source graphics and how to push its capabilities. story was a minor matter. it's called elephants dream because the story ends abruptly, just in dutch children stories. the producers were dutch as well. just do some wikipedia and research and you get more explanations than just hypothetical comments here.

Can somebody tell me what programmes they are using?
By: Outlander11. on 19 Nov 08, 07:35:49
the graphics are nice, but there really is no story line or anything else to it.

I get tired of people avoiding revealing the meaning of something just to make it seem more deep. What I really think this is about is "pushing ideas"as has been more or less admitted, but I think specifically religious ideas especially. Emo asking Proog how he expects him to live his life based on something that isn't there is a dead giveaway. I suppose, given the controversial topic, I can forgive the creators for not outright explaining it for what it is.

Theory: I think Proog is Windows and Emo is Linux, both traversing the internet together. Proog has spent lots of time learning how not to click the wrong link that will get him infected, while Emo has gotten used to surfing care-free, because the dangers aren't targeting him. Why should he be as cautious as a Windows user must be? He has no security problems and no secrets hidden from him. Proog, on the other hand, has to dodge danger constantly, treading carefully and precisely at all times.

The title comes from an expression elephant in the room meaning an obvious truth being ignored. I don't really get the storyline, maybe it's about someone pushing their ideas on another person or somethin
By: sparky21737. on 17 Nov 08, 10:08:31
I think the movie is about people trying to push their ideas onto others. proog (the old man) sees something that emo obviously can't see and he is trying to force emo to see it.

It's one of those short films that is open to interpretation. You kinda have to decide what it means to you.
