I'll be honest, Angela Aki destroys Faye Wong in concerts and LIVEs. The edited video game soundtrack you guys cherish is, of course, very, very good. Would you have thought the same if Aki did the soundtrack first instead? I think this performance was great for concert, but not for a video game soundtrack. I think she's showing great technique, soul, and feeling. Just comparing her to Faye Wong, saying she's no where near as good, and then walking away is just unfair.

Every video like this has among its comments something like 'callas was the greatest singer' bla bla. God - you can't compare every single singer to Callas ! This is completely pointless. She had her own style and talent, but that does not mean she is 'the opera standard' for everyone ! You dont compare every painter to Da Vinci. Callas cannot be doubled literally, but there may be other great singers who will develop their own unique techniques and styles.

Una buona interpretazione, non c'è dubbio... ma niente di superlativo. Anzi, di quella celebre edizione de La Traviata, questa è l'aria più scomoda per la vocalità di questa soprano. Ma ammorbidire un filino di più gli acuti? Sono metallici: tranciano l'aria come lame d'acciaio.

I agree with your assessment of Gheorghiu. Her technique is not perfect, but her other vocal attributes compensate, and viewing and hearing her complete portrayal of the role is quite a riveting experience. I personally find her the greatest modern interpreter of the role. Of course, Callas was a great Violetta, as were Moffo and Sutherland, all having their own strengths. On records, I love some of the early Violettas such as Galli-Curci, Tetrazzini, Muzio, and Ponselle.

Actually Im working on vocals myself, and thats just not true. That's her voice. If you know the technique for that kind of vocal work then its perfectly possible to make your voice sound like that. I've done it on many occasions. You shouldnt throw around accusations like that if you dont know what your talking about.

no its just cos the mic their using to record this is shit so it sounds different then the quality mics used on stage, plus while they were recording that video, angela's voice would of been refreshed, when shes live her voice would be dry and sore after screaming for hours

This is awful. Thumbs down as much as you want- this isn't art. She's all over the place. The voice isn't lined up. Her vibrato ranges from whispery to fluttery. Everytime she goes above the staff, she goes sharp. She has no concept of the text. The roulades are not clean. She isn't giving notes their full value and holding others longer than is written. Barring any comparisons to other, more gifted singers, this is just terrible. I've heard better noises come out of a cat. Basta.
