now that i know your not a child ill just say try not to generalize its not fair, iv known drug asses before too but i just cut them out of my life,and i dont have any issues in my life so my drug use is recreation so I too am speaking from 3rd party, but I have to admit, weed gets a bad wrap these days. My only suggestion is to take a good hard review of your current beliefs. Heroin, cocaine and all other "HARD" drugs have no place in our society because of its effect on it along with alchahol. Last I heard, car accidents, fist fights and assaults caused by weed are at an extreme minimum. also, thieft for supporting weed habbits wouldnt be the cause of the need to steal, Rather its a different situation in the persons life.

lets not get ahead of ourselves here. She is no musical genius by any standards. She just happened to have Mr.Shankar tutor her day in and day out. The originality is not there. Like the previous poster said, if you did know anything about Indian classical music, there are far greater musicians who do deserve such attention, however, did not achieve the same success as Mr.Shankar.

The electronic sounds she uses are so cheap, almost like MIDI sounds. She should listen to tape music composition and analogue sounds (vintage synths, etc), which are richer and more super-natural than the 'too perfect' beats and synthetic sounds she uses. That bass at the end is horrible! It sounds like a cheapo bass via DI or MIDI! It's such as shame when people are out of their depth, especially when they are so great at what they really know about. Reputation means nothing!

I discovered this type of music when I was a senior in high school 4 years ago on the local college radio station. It was a real eye opener for me. Instead of listening to Marylin Manson and hardcore techno all the time, I would more often turn on WNUR's show "Continental Drift" and listen to Indian Classical music and other traditional music all day. Often times during that stretch, the music was the only perk of the entire day. It was great.

I don't need to defend this project of hers because it is not mine to defend, but I don't think she's dumb at all musicaly, infact thats a very closed minded opinion. It is simply fun. Hey I listened to all of this noise. fusion music can be interesting and elevating and karsh is good groover. really anoushka must be musically more dumb than one would have thought. this kind of junk sitar can be played by any third rate sitar in Indian. it's better for Indian classical music that you stick to playing this kind of medicore sitar jam. baap ka badnam mat karo. go and do some hard work and come back

"Hey, this must be your 7th lifetime too!" :-) Well you make a good point that to play exactly the way they do, with the music they do and the exact sound, then you need the exact classical technique, but finger picking really sound amazing and due to peer pressure and tradition, no one does it. Well, the myth is that one must play sitar for 7 lifetimes in order to get it down. So after I set mine up to play ten times easier, my drummer joked, "Wow, you must have practiced 6 lives before this!" So I put the sitar on the floor so it was standing upright in the air and when I came back from the kitchen, my drummer was tapping the strings with his drum stick and fretting from that position and it soun ded like a cross between sitar and zyther, so I said,

There is a whole wealth of improvisation in Western music. You just have to listen to the right music. Just like in Indian, you can't take Bollywood pop music and use that as a means to judge all Indian music. Western music has just as much to offer, you only have to look past the surface and delve into different genres of music to find such things.

There is a reason why the action is that high and there is also a mizrab and the "picking" style has a great advantage over trying to use a flat pick. You'll never be able to play sitar like pros without learning the proper technique. Hundreds and hundreds of years of musicians playing has developed the technique for Sitar and ignoring that knowledge of technique is only going to hurt you if you care to truly learn to play the instrument.

Awesome! Those sitars are really awkward and difficult to play like that. I took one and adjusted it to make the strings really low to the frets, not the high action traditional way, then instead of using that freaky finger pick for everything, I used pinger and flat picking, and voila, I sounded really pro right away! Hats off to her!
