Btw: How can you possibly interpret playing with FEWER fingers than potentially possible as cheating? Do you even know what the word means? If he had speeded up the video or had 7 fingers on each hand, THEN he would be cheating! (Not even sure 7 fingers would count as cheating since he would have been born this way and therefore wouldn't do anything deliberately to gain an advantage).

about soloing, instead of thinking modes, isn't it better to think about the specific scale degrees (1,2,3,4,5,6,7) and how they sound against the chords behind them? each note has a different amount of dissonance and a good melody would try to mix in different intervals, play with rhythmic motifs, etc...

start off PAINFULLY slow to a metronome and work your way up slowly to a faster tempo. make sure that your hand is really relaxed so that you're not so much plucking each string, but keep it as a smooth "falling" motion. It's will suck balls at first, but the end result is extremely rewarding.

Glad it confirmed some things. One thing that helps me understand diminished, is the 5th interval. The on all the others is a perfect 5th in the CHORD, the diminished is DIMIINISHED because of the 5th degree... is flatted, as well as the 3rd being flatted. So its essentially two flatted thirds which gives it its unique sound.

I'm lost on this explanation. The scales are kinda confusing. I got most of them; C-major CEG D-minor DFA, E-minor EGB, F-major FAC, G major GBD, A-minor ACE, B-diminished BDF. Is that right? If so what is the fingering for the last 3 scales (G, A, B) I couldn't get the fingering down during the video.

Its taking a scale and cuting it down to its main points. Like 1/4 note, the 2/4 note, the 3/4 note, and the last note. Or you can do differnet patterns. They are usualy played after the scale. Every scale has an arpeggio to go with it. Thats basically what they are, the easy way.

Another way to play arpeggios is to finger them like chords & hold them, or slightly raise the fingers off the fretboard after the note is struck. This is like a violinist or cellist. The weakenig of the middle finger by barring two notes in a major arpeggio on the G & B strings is common for electric guitarists but limiting. Also the pinky trying to cover both notes on the A & E strings only works because of the distortion & if played on an classical guitar or cleaner would be noticable.

it's funny that you say rolling the index finger from an E to an A is difficult, even though the way your doing it is correct. The first sweep you do could be simplified, instead of using the pinky for the sixth string E (12th fret), use your index finger for the fifth string E (7th fret). keep up the good work.

I like the way you teach the structure of your piece. You separate it into pieces, slowly go over each piece separately and put all back together so that other can see the big picture at the end. You've given me a foundation to work with when using some of my other books. Great teacher. Oh yeah, loved the diagrams.

Can someone explain to me what that Dmin7 arpeggio chart means? Also, next time you should say the notes of the arpeggio you're demonstrating while playing it. The fret numbers don't really help to understand the chord in the context of its scale and key without the corresponding notes. Thanks for the tutorial, though. no, dean are terrible guitars in the mid+ range,way overpriced ad use dimebags name for money. Gibson and Fender may not be the best guitars for metal, but they sure did revolutionize gutiar playing/ tonal standards whereas dean just tried to look cool, as does bc rich. guitars like Jackson or ESP are the only decent metal guitars at all price ranges.
