I just returned one. It started off really great. After 1 week, it took forever to boot up, the browsing was very slow, the audio went bad, and wouldn't play youtube videos any more. I was very disappointed with it, after initially loving it. It would have fit all my needs if it had kept working.

I like Linux but didn't like the limited 8GB SSD so I bought the AOA150-5710 w/ 120GB hard drive, wiped Windows off w/ in the first 20 min's of ownership and installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix. Works great, I found an iso of Acer's version of Linpus so I am going to install it so it is technically all Acer LOL. *****News to know. I called Acer (USA) b4 purchase, they said the hardware/labor part of thew warranty was still 100% if I Wiped Windows off! Way to go Acer!!!!!!!!

have you used one? I have a One and it's surprisingly nimble. You don't have Vista's over head and both Linux and XP run great on 1GB, not to mention it's upgradable. to depending on model 1.5 GB to 2GB. Also, if you know anything about the netbook market you will know it isn't designed to replace ones computer but be an accessory to use on the road.

Um...Windows doesn't come with Skype pre-installed either..... Just like the Windows user you could simply go to the Skype website, download the installer for Fedora core (linpus is based on Fedora) and there ya go.... If you can't figure that out you won't be able to figure Skype out anyway.

My gf just bought one of these new. Paid $600 and got $100 back. It has everything on this computer and it's pretty fast. We only use it to take pics, send pics, keep songs, search the internet, etc. It's very portable and I like it and would like to get one as well. They really need a larger screen because it's just staying in the house, but I want to take mine places. I don't know how much or which one I should get but I like her acer aspire one. Great guide mate! Worked perfectly for me. Except one thing: mine is a 120GB HDD, so I had to unscrew the audio card on the right hand side before lifting up the mainboard, because otherwise the hard drive gets caught on it ;) After that it was exactly as described.

120 gb is much faster than the low grade ssd. windows boot i very fast and the laptop would most likely break from a disabling fall before the hdd would. its a hdd. unless you are going basejumping with it or plan on knocinkg it off of tables it'll be fine.

talking to you as somebody who has spent alot of time in the Netbook catagory since its unveiling; the eee-pc is old and overpriced tech. The aspire one haa faster processor, better build quality and a much better keyboard. aspire one is the best deal at the present time. get that linux 120 gb version and install xp (see my vids for performance info)

know definitely not this laptop does not support DDR3 memory as well as it would not physically fit in the memory slot also you may want to check out my videos on installing RAM in the Acer aspire one as it is much more detailed as well as the video quality is much better and there is also a video on reassembling it with diagrams of where the screws go

My model has the 8GB SSD, and 512 MB RAM. It includes Linpus Linux, so I dont play games other than what comes with it on there, but they work just fine. As for Windows, this is not a gaming machine, and will not play any 3D game very well. It plays mp3s and videos fine (though it would probably be easier on Windows). The speakers aren't that great, I would use headphones. Wireless is great, I've never had a problem with it at all. Feel free to ask any more questions! Take care.

For example, solid state is MORE resistant to shock damage, not less as you said. The lower energy of Solid State isn't just the lack of moving parts, it's the structure of the memory. To be completely honest, I was expecting a cheapo toy sort of thing, but I was surprised to find that it is all very well put together. The fit and finish is truly great, not top notch, it's no Sony Vaio, but it's far better than the average Dell or HP. Considering HP is well known for the second worst fit and finishes, I wouldn't trust them on a netbook. Dell is the worst that I've seen, with pieces not fitting together and such. In the end, the One is better made than you might expect.

hmmm, i dont know. I think its just a bit too cheap and plasticy. Ide prefer to pay the extra 60 quid to get the hp 2133 mininote because of its strong aluminium shell, and more stylish finish. I think the acer aspire, and all other ones like that (including Samsung, Advent and EEE) look a bit childish. Also 'cheap and cheerful' spring to mind. You know - like when you find a fine shard of plastic sticking off the side, like some cheap plastic moulding. I dunno.

its up to you really. solid state drive is less resistant to shick damage because of less moving parts. it takes less energy because of less moving parts and has a lower chance of overheating because of the same fact i stated already. hard drive on the other hand is cheaper then solid state drive. you will get more memory in a hard drive versus a solid state drive

linux is a more simpler version of a processor. if your more familiar with window, then jsut get that one, both run fin. sdd means solid state drive. this has less moving parts versus a hard drive so its more shock resistant, less chance of over heating, and lets your computer start quick, cause it has less moving parts. hdd is your basic hard drive. if memory is the same for solid state drive and hard drive, solid state does cost a little bit more.

pretty sure its upgradable to 1gb of ram. most netbooks only go to a max average of 1gb of ram. i was looking at different netbooks, and found a toshiba one. this one had 2gb of memory, so this was as powerful as an average laptop but the size of of a netbook. but it had the price of a regular laptop =(

Just to save people from falling what I fell for: avoid the wind at all cost. The thing is NOT, I repeat, NOT build very well. The problem is in the screen and the lid. The lid is easily bent, especially while carrying around. Also when you open an close the lid while the screen is on with a dark blue background, then you can see how there is all kinds of stress on the screen because of the watery patterns that appear. The screen will break early I think - not well protected at all.

I got the Aspire one. But with Swedish keyboard so my enter and backspace keys are bigger. And it runs battlefield 1942 smoothly. One bad thing is that i had to take the whole computer apart to upgrade the ram.

No, but you can download something called Pidgin, which can you log onto Msn network from. I don't think it'll support the audio clips and nudges etc, but it will be able to chat to your friends while they're using Msn Messenger (which I believe is actually called Windows Live Messenger) along with anyone on AIM, Yahoo Messenger, and even ICQ if anyone you know still uses it.
