Nice vid, came up on the "recommended for you" list so I thought I'd check it out, the beginning has Sashi written all over it (and she teaches too). To most of you posters, I like all forms of belly dancing, but tribal gets the most attention from me because it's modern and different and Rachel Brice shed alot of light into that. But my god, lots of retarded posts in here, why can't we all just get along? :P

for mojgan17. there are no egyptian or turkish people in this group, probably because they didn't seek the group out. and the group was probably in no hurry to seek out token dancers. this is america and we blend and make other styles and cultures our own. not copies our own. blended culture. seek the group out and dance.and contribute. if you are good enough, they will blend in your style. its an honor that someone feels you are good enough to emulate.

well you are right in that none of these 3 performances have a lot to do with actual Mideastern bellydance, Rachel and Ansuya borrow the traditional movements but alter them to fit their taste but not Mideastern one. Their performances would leave many Arabs asking "that looks nice, but why do you do Samba, or what is it, to Arab style music?" It s pretty irrecognizable as bellydance what they do. And Isis wings - I dont like them. Not very Mideastern either ;) but i do like the BDSS.

I think the point they were making referred to the belly dance *costumes* which were at one point influenced by Western cinema (though admitedly that distinction does not come across as clearly in this clip.) Also, belly dance is a living, changing art. As a performance art (as opposed to private folk dancing around) it has certainly has both influenced and been influenced by Western dance. Ex: Samia Gamal (ballet training); compare modern dancers like Randa & Dina with, say, Naima Akef.

I would have agreed with JENMASU if you had used the actual classical piece. But you used a Remix and if I am not very wrong drums have been added to the Remix I know. I have danced to the orginal and Remix of this. Your dancing would indeed have been not quite fitting on the original. But the Remix is cool and is used not only in bellydancing. I once saw a fusion of Raqs Sharqi and Ballet to this Remix. Anyhow I loved your group Performance it is very alive and dynamic. Thumbs up from me.

You need to learn the origin of this dance before you speak on it. In ancient times, when women would dance around with their stomachs and other flesh showing was entertainment for the kings with only adults present. The dances were mainly to entertain men. The king and his manly guests. Belly dancing was never a family affair no matter what you say. But hey, if it makes you feel good to spout off like that then go for it. But it doesnt change the fact of the matter.

I totally agree. I mean.. belly dancing is an art of its own. You can't try to make it westernized with more steps, moves and artificial choreography. Belly dancing is not just about body movement.. it's an expression of feelings and emotion... a good belly dancer will add to the meanings of a song ---- not diminish the value of the song (like what we see in this case- she ruined kazem's song!!)
