Hadise has nothing to do with Begium? She was born in Belgium,has Belgian nationality and was dicoverd in a Belgian contest called IDOOL. What is the problem with you Turkish people? Every time someone dares to critise a Turkish Bellydancer you begin with Turkish slogans. I repeat:I do not care which nationality someone has and I give comment on the dance no matter which country the dancer comes from. Turkey does not have monolopy on Bellydance you know.

And i think you are right. For me, there is a moment, a limit of beauty that an oriental dancer can not trespas. Watching all these wonder-women performing these masterpieces, one sees that nobody is able to do it better, and nobody can do it better because perfection is achieved. Could anyone do that better than perfect ? Every dancer is unique, as you well say, all achieve their goal:Pefection...and yet, every dancer has her own way to reach that target. Thanks for confirmation of my words.I think It is not fair to say this or that oriental dancer is good and the other bad...because all try to do their best. All are wonderful trying to make us hapy whith their beauty , elegance and dancing, We should be all thankful for these dancers to exist because without them life would be boring and would lose perhaps the most important master piece ever created: a woman oriental dancer.

I totally agree. I mean.. belly dancing is an art of its own. You can't try to make it westernized with more steps, moves and artificial choreography. Belly dancing is not just about body movement.. it's an expression of feelings and emotion... a good belly dancer will add to the meanings of a song ---- not diminish the value of the song (like what we see in this case- she ruined kazem's song!!)

Não tem coisa mais tosca do q homem dançando dança do ventre.P/ começar, homem nem tem ventre. E por + domínio da dança q ele tenha nunca vai passar de uma caricatura. To follow up from your and my posts above - Samia & Sadie can't be compared as one being better than the other because their styles have different characteristics. One might talk about which style you prefer. Saying that sadie is BETTER for doing something that Samia doesn't is as absurd as saying that Brit English is better tha American because it spells colour with a u. The skill set for Western Bellydance is DIFFERENT from the skill set for Egyptian, so i don't clearly see your point at all.

As someone with a language background, i would be the first to say that English is the Tribal Fusion of languages =) It's a lot of stuff from alot of different roots, and there's nothing wrong with that as long as we acknowledge it for being that. Similarly i would acknowledge Tribal Fusion, ATS and even AmCab as being not original bellydance but fusions - BEAUTIFUL fusions, but still fusions, just as modern English is beautiful, but not original english.

It does not take an expert to see moves that appear to be more technically difficult, but it DOES take someone knowledgable of the dance to recognise that it is about FAR more than technical proficiency. I've said it before & i'll say it again, wearing bedleh & doing superb isolations does not a bellydancer make. Sadie is lovely at what she does - AmCab, but she can't compare to what Samia is to Egyptian style purely because she's missing the cultural essence & it shows.

Anyone can move their bodies in rhythm but not anyone can do it in fluid-like manner. It requires a real talent and dedicated training to achieve that. My definition of oriental dance (what westerners call it bellydancing) is that every part of the body is dancing gracefully around the belly without forcing it or making it look too technical. The contemporary bellydancing i see in sadie's clips gives me an impression she's working out her abs in rhythm. Bellydancing has evolved throughout the years. Watch out for Suhair Zaky and Nawga Fouad whose styles were different from those of Samia Gamal and Taheya Carioca yet all exude the grace.

However, I do agree with you that Samia is very graceful and has facial expressions that go beautifully with her dance. She is radiant and pleasant to watch as she dances. I also find her very pretty. She is a good dancer, that we can't dispute. I just can't imagine that many consider Samia the best belly dancer by virtue of her being one of the originals. If that is your definition of belly dance, then I guess everyone who moves gracefully, even though they have not been trained in belly dance, can dance to some music and set themselves free in a flurry of movements and that can be called belly dance. As the commenter said below, belly dance has branched and evolved. Look at Samia Gamal's eyes, smile and her hands. Every single part of her body is unconsciously following the wave created in her belly. It might appear insignificant to you but the whole body is moving gracefully around the centre (i.e. the belly). When English people translated the word "raqs sharqi" into bellydancing, they just killed the essence of our oriental dance. The contemporary belly dancing might appeal to many of you but that doesn't mean it holds the true essence of belly dancing. The real belly dancer is the one who sets her self free when she dances and enjoys every moment of her dance until you no longer know whether she is dancing to the music or the music is playing to her movements. It is all about grace, grace and grace. Once the belly dancer consciously thinks about any technique, it's no longer the belly dancing in its truest form.

Well, as long as a dance is kept alive it will go on evolving. Dances never remain stagnant as long as there are people dancing and teaching them. As you have noticed, most dances that are "faithful" to their cultural contexts are considered boring and unappealing alongside their derivations. You are judging bellydance as though it's just about movement, taking it completely out of the cultural context. Many people will argue the Tribal Fusion is not even bellydance. The fact of the matter is that neither Sadie nor Rachel, lovely as what they do might be, truly reflect the cultural essence that makes this dance what it is. True, there would have been no Sadie or Rachel Brice without dancers like Samia Gamal. We have to give them credit for that. But I say Rachel Brice and Sadie have improved on belly dance much. The nightclub version called Raks Sharki developed in the 1920's and 30's in Cairo, was performed exclusively by women because the audience was predominantly male. However, the dance itself is based on the social dance called Raks Baladi and is done by both sexes. Its like in Brazil both men and women do Samba, but they show the women for the tourists. Now guys are starting to perform it on stage too.

Does it matter who's better or not? They're both leading figures in educating the world to the male role within Raks Sharki dancing, a role that until recently has had to sit in the shadows of the commercial "belly dancing" image. Whatever level of talent either Tito or Tarik have, and whatever difference in their style, they're both talented and an asset to the form so give it a rest with the childish slantering and grow up.

Don't know where you get your information, but there is nothing NEw Age about the dance. Its has nothing to do with the worship of ancient kings. Its is a social folk dance that was theatricalized for the stage in night clubs in Cairo in the early 20th century and performed by women because the audiences were almost exclusively male. It's just entertainment. Now a few men, such as Tito and myself are performing it. Look at 6969's playlist Middle EAstern men dancing.

Ahhh, no. This is the same type of dance Tito does. Its RAKS SHARKI, which is a theatrical version of the local social folk dance. The only difference is that I'm playing the finger cymbals which have gone out of style in Egypt at the moment and I'm wearing a more theatrical costume which is based on the men's outfits of the Ottoman Empire.

I can hardly think that oriental dance for men would be harder than for women. It's ALOT of practice behind getting good for both. Female and male are still humans and we are designed very alike. It's about to control your body and relax and let go. I doubt that has anything to do with male vs female when it comes to dance.

Que tiene que ver eso con Saida??? Shakira no hace "bellydance" pura, pero sí pop, y con el pop se puede mesclar la danza que se quiera (bolero, tango, break, samba...y vientre tambíen porsupuesto) Y shakira es una grande EN SU AREA. Acá, danza del vientre, és otra cosa distinta, és mucho más dificil bailar bellydance de verdad, ejemplo: Saida. Pero Shakira baila y canta bien, es una diosa, con su estilo y originalidad.

Ashurabrighton no tenes ni idea de la historia de la danza arabe, a los comienzos esta danza las mujeres bailaban desnudas, si desnudas, para alabar a sus dioses y a la fertilidad.... en fin la historia es un poco larga. Despuen se impuso la religion musulmana que tapo toda dicha tradicion y se la considero pecado, en la actualidad si seguis la religion musulmana es cierto lo que decis, y no por bailar en los piezas "no representas la cultura arabe".

pues yo estoy bastante de acuerdo con lo que dices, pero sin embargo no deja de parecerme un bonito espectáculo. Además, se nos está olvidando que una mujer árabe jamás se vestiría así para bailar, y mucho menos delante de desconocidos (las árabes que se las dan de "puras" sólo bailan en compañía de su familia, y otras mujeres, y bastante más recatadas q Saida. Lo del origen sirio no es por ponerlo en duda, pero ahora resulta que todas las bailarinas de danza del vientre son de origen árabe...

Hola Si es verdad, Saida baila divino, tiene una tecnica impecable, Pero es acaso ella una digna representante de la danza del vientre? Acaso transmite el verdadero sentir del pueblo arabe? Yo en mi opinion personal y sin animo de ofender, veo a una hermosa bailarina de ballet tratando de hacerse la diosa, no una mujer apasionada o por lo menos enomorada del sentir y amar de un pueblo apasionado como lo es la nacion arabe.
