I agree with you that Brolin probably didn't mean it the way that he said it. But he never apologized and didn't try to correct himself. It sounded, though, like he was trying to justify his response and "save face," so to speak, before he was cut off by the hosts. And the fact that he laughed, I think, was probably because he was embarrassed. He shouldn't have though especially since it wasn't the "politically correct" thing to do. And Brolin being a public figure should have known better.

You are right.I was out of line. I apologize for name-calling. That was very immature of me. And you are also right that there will be people who will not observe 9/11 in reflection. And those are the very people who are responsible for undermining the meaning of our holidays, or any day of importance. Humanity, for all its intent, has the annoying tendency of forgetting things with time. It's how we survive. The Brolin comment is simply telling us that although we may put the 911 at a distance as time goes by, we should make damn sure not to cheapen it, the way we have with "Happy Memorial Day".

No I don't know the motivation behind your name but it certainly reinforced what you were saying. And you should have stated your second paragraph in the first place instead of trying to justify Brolin's response by asking what the big deal was when you brought up memorial day. They are two entirely different situations anyway. Memorial day remembers the soldiers who fought for our liberties whereas 9/11 is the day that many innocent civilians were victimized by suicidal religious nuts.

I personally do not say that. But it's a common phrase. Just look it up here on youtube and you'll see many videos posted. I understand why schools and businesses are closed (At least some of the businesses) but how does a barbecue pay respect? I think a parade signifies that more. Blah...(nice name,sarcasm intended), I have a question. Do you actually say, "happy memorial day?" Because no one (with class & a good understanding of what the day signifies), says that in New York. The fairs and parades are commercial attempts to "celebrate" the national "holiday." But the barbeque's and the fact that schools and business's close serve as a way to pay our respect & spend time with our families in a time of remembrance & appreciation of the liberties that were fought for.
