Look for the Human Weapon Ninjutsu segments here on YouTube. There is a fight towards the end, and it gives you a better sense of the pace. There are also some Israeli police demonstrations of ninjutsu, which shows some good disarms etc. Not way fast like kung fu or kenpo, but I'd say it's pretty fluid.

Eh, it's not as fluid as other martial arts, and it's kind of slow. but I figure they were doing it slow so nobody got hurt and just practicing. I would like to see the actual pace of a fight using this style.

In this video, you see people doing rolls and breakfalls. It might seem a bit unrealistic (some call it LARPing), but being able to roll over a swinging bat or other weapon, or rolling under it would be examples for the use some of these moves (or picking up a weapon off the ground really fast... harder than it looks!) Also, being able to roll over an object like a table would be advantageous in close quarters (like a bar fight).

Rolls, yes. Breakfalls, yes. Flips? Well, do you mean acrobatic type stuff or just cartwheels? The stuff you see ninja doing in movies might be a bit much. I should point out that I'm far from an expert on the art, but I think it's safe to say that Hollywood's taken liberties on what ninja actually do ;)

Well, maybe at higher levels but I've not learned any. Kyushojutsu is an art unto its own, from my very limited understanding. Whether it's part of the Bujinkan training I honestly don't know.

Taijutsu is commonly referred to as unarmed combat although taijutsu is important in armed combat as well. I like to think of it as how you manipulate your body for different techniques. all martial art did their evolution, changed and added a few techniques so there is other way to learn it B4 comments,i just started Bujikan budo Taijutsu,did taekwondo,and for now i realy enjoy that new style of combat,they prefer to roll on the ground to avoid hit then risk a bad landing and lost the fight.U must know that this one is a survival mode so they fight basic but deadly,if u dont kill,submission or break an arm,leg.U wont see any master doing some hotshot to risk the fight result

cassandra im not really seeing any facts from your end either. i also don't recall making any comments about the scrolls, at least on this video, but regaurdless im not sure how your explanation of history and pre-history substantiates or verifies them. they are just some scrolls. im honestly just not impressed by a foggy history taught by someone with vested financial interest. is it that much to ask that we see this stuff work in full contact confrontations before accepting its effectivity?

This shit is all fake. An easy way to tell if a "dojo" or "school" is fake is if they don't ever practice anything against an opponent who is really resisting. This is what we see here. ufc is of course a sport, but mma isnt. if one chooses to mix martial arts it doesnt mean he/she is doing it for sport, but loading their arsenal of techniques. imho it seems that ninjutsu seems to be an mma in itself. it combines different aspects of combat in one art, so that students do not have to learn several arts to be proficient in multiple aspects of combat.

From what i can tell the weapon at the end was actually just a very thick bo with a rope to carry it. There are bo's of different thicknesses and shapes (hexagonal, etc.). I suggest u pick up hatsumi's advanced stick fighting book if ur interested in more.

The problem with BJJ type training is that Bujinkan people don't usually want to be on the ground for that long. We train for the possibility of multiple opponents, so being tied up on the ground isn't such a great idea. Having said that, BJJ training should be done a little. I would hate to be on the ground in a one on one fight with a BJJ guy. But I'd probably just try and poke him in the eye etc instead of wrestling with him.

no conozco ninjutsu, yo hago kung fu tradicional, pero me parece que sus movimientos , si bien muy precisos, bastante lentos es ninjutsu asi en la practica o solo es porque se trata de una demostracion?

Jason, a slight correction. No westerners have any menkyo of any of the nine ryu-has to date. However, the Japanese Shihan are sometimes referred to as having 15th Dan so that they are not confused as having lesser rank than any other students of Hatsumi Sensei. But, only the Japanese Shihan have ryu-ha rankings. That is why Manaka and Tanemura could leave and transmit the ryu-ha as they have - they were already certified masters in them. And, not ALL Japanese shihan have menkyo certificates.

The dan grading is something that is not used by the Japanese Shihan like Seno Hideo,Ishizuka Tetsuji,Oguri Koichi,Noguchi Yukio,Nagato Toshiro,Shirashi Isamu,Someya Kenichi,Nagase Hiroshi and Nakadai Keiji. However, you will readily see Westerners such as Mr. Van Donk and even Stephen K. Hayes with awarded (earned) dan such as 10th and 15th. Yep, not even Stephen K. Hayes received menkyo in anything within Bujinkan.

In Bujinkan only the Japanese shihan have certification in actual ryu-ha that make up the nine schools within the organization. This may be because Hatsumi Sensei probably had already picked most of his actual students by the 1980s. At that time all Hatsumi's ranking black belts were Japanese. The most you will see today is guys with high dan grades (up to 15th dan). Hatsumi gave actual menkyo (licenses) to those early Japanese students only. (cont.)

Well then, he's an extremely powerful master of the art of ninjutsu. And I'm just saying that he's much more killed than your average joe, so he's trying to make sure his students sense the killing intent since his technique would be a lot more precise, deadly, and harder to defend against than a normal one and he wants his students to be able to stop it.

True students are not necessarily those that appear in a seminar, or those that will be exposed to him in a dojo even if they live in Japan for years. A true student is made so by the sensei. That student is the one that is taught "kuden" when others are not. He is the one that will receive actual certification in a ryu-ha (which sadly no Westerners have received from Hatsumi to date). Hatsumi's inner core of Japanese students (like Manaka Unsui) do have ryu-ha certification.

The realistic view is that if you travel to Japan on this very day, you'll only be exposed to him - at best. He has already picked his true students - long ago. He is now more of a leader, ensuring the direction of his organization in keeping with his vision. But, he does have very capable students - bonifide masters themselves - that do still actively accept true students. In a dojo, there are those that provide the overhead, and the select few that are actually taught.

Brother, if anyone that practices kenjutsu today swings a razor sharp nihonto in a straight downward cut over your head like that, and he hits you ... you are dead. It does not take the "most powerful ninja" in the world. Besides, Hatsumi himself does not consider himself a ninja - as he himself has asserted - since he considered Takamatsu Toshitsugu to be the last real ninja. However, it has been said that at his prime, Hatsumi Sensei was a tremendous athlete and a "hard" martial artist-the likes of which are hard to come by today. But, he trained the "old fashioned way". Curiously, he doesn't not train his foreign students as hard as he was trained. And, his Japanese senior students (shihan) do not take part in the silly 15 degree belt system as they possess bonifide rank in arts that Hatsumi Sensei is "soke" for. If you look at the film and pause it at 1:54, you will notice that Hatsumi Sensei is angling his shinai to Tanemura Sensei's right (our left as we see it). Had it been a real Shomen Giri (cut to the head), it would have come straight down over the head. If you see several godan tests on "youtube", you will notice that Hatsumi Sensei tends to over exagerate the downward cut and comes up on his toes dramatically to help the student "sense" the "killing intent".

Una vez que se comprenden los ppios del njt, se deben aplicar a la realidad. el totro d´ia, delante de mi casa hubo una pelea a golpes. uno de ellos le daba al otro puñetazos y patadas, nada que ver con fudoken y zenpogeri. UNA cosa es una faca y OTRA muy diferente es una katana. A mi me gusta mucho el kempo por ejemplo, pero sinceramente está obsoleto, asi como aprender griego o algo por el estilo que en esta sociedad seria algo completamente para sacarse un gusto y no para utilizarlo en alguna oportunidad.
