I've found many still sealed records in 30 years, also promo, rare 78's including a Sun 209. Not many advertising to buy records around here so I got good response. Saw the Animals 8-13 in Vegas. WOW what a baby-boomer experience nobody under 50 and there was a guy with a oxygen mask on! Eric is grey haired now so his face actually fits his songs. Good concert not great but finally got to him live. He did not sing any WAR songs and sorry to say he did not sing Monterey and his encore was Sky Pilot which he wrote himself and yes after 40 yrs. he can still belt out a song.......................

This is such an awesome track, great rifs, Burdons unique delivery. I love the opening scene, walking into the Monterey Fairgrounds. I saw so many concerts there. My last one was before leaving cali, was Carlos Santana in 1994. He talked to us about playing with Hendrix, Joplin, Redding at the same spot in 1969.

the "production" of a song or the way in which a song was produced generally references the quality of it's sound. for instance, on this, the drums sound pretty much like a drum machine, the organ sounds like a cheap keyboard and... I dunno... you can't really feel anything as you could say, a 50s jazz recording. But it's an incredibly common problem and doesn't deter from this, it's such a great version!

damn, I wish I had this on cd! ernie ford's rendition is a classic, but this one really, for me, does the trick. and I am a GIANT jazz fan. For everybody who is raving about how bad this is compared to ernie's... I get it... but it's eric fucking burdon... as far as I'm concerned, he can do whatever the fuck he wants with a song. Plus, save the awful generic 80s/polished production (for which eric cannot be blamed), this a GREAT fucking version.

HOWEVER... my suggestion that Bill Baker was responsible for the actual recording came before I read back through the past comments on this board. By a miracle of coincidence, Bill Baker and reel2reelbill are one and the same. After reviewing Bill's posts and comparing the copy Bill gave me years ago, IT IS the same recording no question about it. You still rock Bill... all these years later.

According to some the guys in War, their manager Jerry Goldstein actually recorded the show as well. We're not sure who the source for this tape is, but we're glad to be able to hear it. Like I said elsewhere on this thread, it boggles the mind to imagine what Jimi could have done with a fully fleshed out band like WAR, a group whose imagination was as great as his.

Whose recording is this?... My friend was in the audience that night at Ronnie Scotts. He recorded the performance on his cassette recorder and played it for me on September 17, 1970. The day after that, Jimi was gone. The recording never appeared on bootleg, youtube or any anywhere else until years later, after my friend distributed copies to friends et al. I believe it's the same recording. My friend's name is Bill Baker. Credit where credit's due.
