Danke für deine Einschätzung, Dead or Alive ist eines meiner Lieblingsalben von den Busters und auch die Couch Potatoes höre ich sehr gerne. Und genau in dieser Richtung gibt es auf dem neuen Album auch endlich (!) wieder etwas.. Dass die ausgerechnet immer ihre schwächeren Songs als Vorboten rausschicken, ist natürlich blöd. Keep on skanking ;)

A masterpiece! The best version of this brilliant film is the Photoplay one, with the wonderful music by Carl Davis. Mr Davis also did a fabulous score for 'Our Hospitality'. I wish he could have done the same for all of Buster's films - Buster was the best, so he deserves the best!

I couldn't disagree more with those posters below who say this fight wasn't a great one. It was one for the ages, and Douglas just beat Tyson and fought the heroic fight of his life. NOT because Mike wasn't ready, etc. But b/c from the opening bell, Buster fought a smart, quick, powerful type of fight, and used his size and physical attributes. Brilliant. Don't minimize the greatness of it because someone fed you a line about some Tyson excuse.

Mike lost this fight before he stepped into the ring. He didn't prepare the way he had for all his other fights. Blame his management and, HIMSELF. I saw this fight for myself 18 years ago...sitting in my uncle's bedroom (because he was the one with the cable, lol). I was disappointed then because I wanted to be like Tyson. Funny, now I find myself rooting for Buster in this video even though I know the outcome. Mike is a tragicomedy/disaster.

I always get annoyed when I do a search on "Buster Keaon" and find nothing but clips set to contemporary music. Well, call me a hypocrite. I wanted to make a video celebrating one of cinemas greatest geniuses, and oddly enough the idea came to me while listening to this Pixies track. I think the two go well together.

They own a hotel and live in it, so they get well looked after, but they go around up and down 3 flights of stairs, not in the very posh lift, and run fingers in white gloves over everything looking for dust! Buster certainly has remarkable ability to dampen the negative effects of smoking. However that doesn't mean it has 'no effect' on his health at all. If he didn't smoke maybe he would reach 130 years or so. We don't know! Smoking is 100% bad, there is no questions about it. The body cannot protect totally against the toxins from it. So damage is still being done, just a lot less than it would do to a normal person. I hope buster beats the 122 year record! Go buster!

It's just a case of Buster needing the money and having to doing things he normally wouldn't do. It's not ALL bad though. Certainly not his best but there are a couple of good Columbia shorts that he did. Yes, this is the best copy (unless you've got a region 2 DVD player and can find the MK2 edition). David Shepard has produced two copies of The General to DVD, and although the one with the Alloy Orchestra's synth score has better image quality, the music for this one captures the mood better, I think. Chaplin actually put Keaton in the movie to help Keaton out. At this time in of Keaton's career he was finding work hard to get and Chaplin helped him out. Later in life one of Chaplin's daughters brought their boyfriend to the house and the boyfriend commented on how he was a bigger fan of Keaton to which Chaplin commented "I gave him work." I am not diminishing the abilities of Keaton, he was a fine actor. However, in the grand scheme of things Chaplin, world round is remembered as the better.

Well - it IS Chaplin's film (and don't forget, he was going through a very rough time at this point in his life, and this would be his last film released in America. I think he wanted to be remembered kindly by them, so if the rumours of unfair editing are true it's not so much because of jealousy, but because it was his final bow and he knew it.)

you're missing the point. the sentiment of them being old was the IDEA behind this movie, and certainly this scene. they are 'washed up' characters in the movie. besides, they were renowned for their film performances, not stage or vaudeville (like in this scene). so they are making fun of themselves, with remarkable vibrancy. This is one of my favorite things ever.

No. I it is more effective that they withold all the laughter from the audience during this scene. It is blocked out, but i assume they are laughing. Then, at the end, you get to hear the audience laughing. I think to hear people laughing after every funny moment can be annoying sometimes.

The way i look at this scene is that there is an audience there, but say the audience's laughter is blocked out for the most part. This is maybe the message of this scene. I think it is more effective that way. Then, at the end, you finally get to hear the last laugh from the audience.

I do love Keaton, and I think there's room in the world for both Chaplin and him. The question is, which is more daring: physical stuntwork? or Monsieur Verdoux and The Great Dictator?
