People, I think titimangos is referring to this as a part of the suite as a whole, this being one of the easiest bits. I'm a classical guitarist, and am working on learning a transcription of this, and it's by no means easy, and I haven't even started trying to play the other movements, but they certainly don't look like they get any easier. Bach forgot how to write stuff that was easy to play when he was still in two parts hahaha

Whoa there kermitonment, Segovia and Bach is like oil and water. Glissandos and pauses that last way too long have no place in Bach's music. What's good for Tarrega's Capricho Arabe and a lot of music that Segovia did play extremely well, is no way appropriate for J.S. Bach. I thoroughly enjoyed her playing of Bach.

I think it is from segovia. There is a whole bass voice and many polyphonic effects added to the original. Its beautiful, but the original meaning of the piece is lost. The bach version is more interesting for me.

Dont make the same mistake i did, 19 years of rushing!!!!!. Play it as slowly as you can over and over and the speed will gradually improve and you'll land it cleanly. Youll be a fine guitarist=)

you need to improve on the tone, I'm mainly criticizing it due to you playing the piece ponticello (having the left hand close to the bridge) the entire way through, this may be appropriate in some sections of the piece, but in others the sound would be much better if you were to play dolce (right hand over the sound hole)

Personligen tycker jag musiken går mer rakt in i hjärtat i t.ex Söllschers eller din tolkning.Har du förresten gjort "Fuga" från "Prelude,fugue and allegro"?

Very nicely done - just watch that it doesn't blend all together too much, similar to vibraphone in the percussion world or leaving the sustain pedal down on the piano too much, otherwise I enjoyed this version of the work immensely.

u' re right, anyway that version li jie plays is the Ponce arranement (written for and played by segovia..i think ther's a video too here on utube) and the reason why for all the basses is the polyphonic aspect of the classical guitar that he wanted to emphasize.Bach himself never gave great importance to to the notes as written on paper (if u get what i mean) sry for bad english :) Ah anyway ..this very well played

Bach originally wrote this piece for cello, and one aspect of the mastery in his work is the fact that his preludes are very simplistic and Bach didn't write any of those bass notes that Li Jie played. this I think, is the most heartfelt rendition I have found on youtube. I learned this piece from a Russian cellist, so I can appreciate a different take on a classic. It was Yo-Yo Ma's version in Master and Commander, this sounds like the version in The Soloist though. This piece seriously makes me cry, it never gets old playing it ^_^

lol no one has rights to it. If the composer has been deceased for more than 70 years, the song can no longer charge royalties for it. However music companies still do charge for the scores, but no of Bach's relatives receive anything from the sales. So don't worry about rights, theres no reason you cant use the piece for anything.

In fact I often like more, when even a slow piece is played fast. Then you can't hear everything as long as you'd like, but you still get to savor it a bit differently and it creates a more of a moving landscape, rather than the feeling of notes being dragged out to create mood.

what the hell. Shadowtech666- you know nothing about Baroque technique. Baroque style was not used to produce drama, tension, etc. vibrato was a technique but the player had to always be judicious when to play it- Mischa Maisky has interpreted this piece romantically- therefore it is not true the the period. strings were made out of either sheeps or pig intestines to create a dark, translucent sound. mischa uses metal wire and therefore- a bright hard sound is created. go do some research.

that's because thats how to play a stringed instrument well, using vibrato or other articulation to make it sound pretty :)

I accidently opened 2 windows on this page with Mischa Maisky playing Sarabande, one window has a few seconds delayed about 4 bars, and jit ust sound INCREDIBLE, as if 2 Maiskys playing in a duet! Try it you'll love it! the sound will melt your heart

Guys this is a baroque piece, the Baroque style used exaggerated motion and clear, easily interpreted detail to produce drama, tension, exuberance, and grandeur in sculpture, painting, literature, dance, and music. The style started around 1600 in Rome, Italy and spread to most of Europe. So vibrato was definatly a technique, and TYPICALLY the slower you play, the more vibrato you need, not alywas the case though

this work wouldn't be as beautiful as it is without the vibrato. Don't get me wrong, I love the cello, but any stringed instrument that is bowed needs to have some kind of vibrato or it sounds just nasty

turidoth i agree with you. its the way the music is played. you may not like how he plays it because he has a different feel for it. if i was to play this, i think id use much less vibrato. but he give his heart and soul into the music and thats what counts

IT'S CALLED BAROQUE PEOPLE. BAROQUE. THIS ISN'T THE ELGAR OR DVORAK CELLO CONCERTO. THIS GUY PLAYS IT WITH SO MUCH ViIiBraTOoOoOo, makes me sick. I usually play this slow, but this recording is just too dam slow.
