According to various websites, he has a blood disorder called polycythaemia vera which has advanced to myelofibrosis. Its not necessarily cancer but its too many red blood cells, making him extremely tired. In September 2008, he underwent a bone marrow transplant and it is responding favorably.

Yeah, and lots of others. By the way, I personally think that King Crimson is possibly the only really progressive band. Meaning that they have always come up with new stuff and staying fresh. Ok, in 80's they did went along with new wave, but what they did was original, unlike Yes and Co. And Fripp is in the top 5 guitarplayers ever lived.

haha yeah well there's still pendragon, awesome Camellish band :) bt you're right, so sad! Especially those dreadfull desperate shows like "Idols' or "so you wanna be a popstar" etc. This is what it's about, emotion, feeling and indeed being able to transform your feeling into music, those guuys breathe music. I'll never forget the way Latimer silenced the entire audience with "ice" and "for today". That's music!!

ANDREW'S HEALTH 137 DAYS POST TRANSPLANT... I apologise for the lack of information these past weeks. Andrew's excellent progress suffered a nasty setback in February. We did send out a newsletter to those on our mailing list, appealing for a renewed Hour Candle lighting and you responded in force. It is so heartening. After a tough 4 weeks, he finally rallied and began to stabilise. He was able to come home in late March and, since then, has gone from strength to strength.

Exactly, I remmeber getting into an argument with a youngster who insulted the music back in the early 60's, 70s saying that none of the great metal bands today, or some of the music the dude listens to , never got their roots of rock or theory influences back then by the bands before, he was pure ignorant.

they havent been making music for a few years .. the last things they did were just redoing songs they had already made then latimer went into the hospital and has been there since at least mid 07.. but what i really meant is that its a shame they arent making new material .. they tried a few times but things keep going badly. im just curious to see what their music would sound like now after having gone through so much

I bought Rain Dances album in 1977 or 78. Loved it then, love it now. Camel's music just shows that a thing of beauty lasts forever. While the "music industry" continues to pump out a highly degraded form of popular music to an ignorant generation, we can look back at a period when true art was appreciated. Long live Camel!

This was the lineup I saw at Southampton Gaumont - I think the best lineup; Sinclair and Collins added a lot to the complex rhythms of the compositions. Also saw them at the King's Theatre Southsea. That was the Nude tour, if I remeber correctly. Thanks BBC Sight and Sound in Concert for introducing me to Camel

Rotary engines used everything except the carburetor,oil pump, and magnetos as a flywheel.Had not the engineering community saddled them with "windage" figures for spinning the mass, they would and should have had much higher horsepower ratings. I have one, and should I choose to replace it with a rotating crank, I would neeed to look a doubling the rated horsepower to get similar performance. Bill Woodall

The problem wasn't cooling related. They could cool the engines fine. The problem was that they didn't know how to properly balance the engine and the tolerances were terrible so unless they bolted a huge flywheel on the engine, it would rattle the plane apart. The rotary radial engine used the crankcase as the flywheel to save weight but they still had a horrible power to weight ratio. 345 lbs for 160 hp is way down there.

Yes, I did good to get 18-20 mph out of that RX7, even when I wasn't lead-footed. I now understand the difference between the radial and rotary design (Mazda misnomered there's, I feel); however, why did they put pistons in the cylinders? Seems like it would have been more efficient if the cylinders/plugs were firing against the stationary crankhouse, therefore spinning the cylinders and propeller. Kind of like a reverse Wankel. Thx.

Well the war wouldn't in that case not been won if not the Soviets killed 80 percent of all germans and destroyed 3/4 of the nazi war machinery. Nazi germany sent most of their men and weapons to fight the Red Army. The western allies were well aware invading continental Europe was impossible if not the majority of the nazi war machine was held up on a loooooong eastern front. Therefore sending food,medicine and trucks to them was of uttermost importance.

Yes,most planes have "radial" engines with their cylinders fixed, but the Sopwith Camel has a rotary engine where the CYLINDERS rotate (solved cooling problems back then) around an axle, but in those cylinders the pistons go up and down like any other 4-stroke engine. TOTALLY different from a Wankel.
