We never truly had capitalism? well maybe not if we did we would be a third world country like Haiti. No public schools, libraries nothing. And I find it very funny that the US automakers are now going bankrupt because they say they cant compete with European automakers who thanks to universal health care dont have the burden of paying for their workers benefits like we do. So I guess capitalism is not so great for the economy after all.

u can put whatever 'ism' u want on it, u still won't have a perfect state... the management of human social and economic interaction is and always will be a work in progress!!!

The first step to producing goods is lowering the losses of making those goods. Strengthen the dollar by upping interest rates so our money is more powerful will lead to increase spending and net gains for businesses. The Fed opposes this because it will reduce the volume of stocks. Talk about catering for the 1%.
By: the1337k1ng. on 12 Nov 08, 15:26:23
You can't "just let people spend again". First, you have to produce and export goods, then you will be able to start consuming again with the earnings from this export.

The Ponzi Scheme has always worshipped at the washed feet of legal and illegal immigration. They pretend to abhor illegal but that's just for show as conservatives" PONZI = Dems + Repubs.
By: lumpagogo. on 09 Nov 08, 23:27:45
Capitalism is a Ponzi Scheme; it must have 3.5 kids per family just to break even (more houses, furniture, appliances, baby clothing and all the other junk we consume. Corporatists hate abortion, not because they are pro-life, but but because they see it as a potential dagger thru the heart of their 400-year reign-of-maximized-profits.
By: McOath. on 07 Nov 08, 23:15:15
Well first off you can look up Resource-Based Economy, then cause that's a bit crazy utopian you can look up Parecon, and then you can end your day with some Permaculture. I personally support Parecon. So there are just off the top of my head not 1 but 3 systems that would be a marked improvement over capitalism, and there are even more out there if you look alittle.
By: richi1173. on 07 Nov 08, 21:39:39
Capitalism in itself is flawed, but we never fully had capitalism. Is it the best economic model that we have, yes it is. Also, it depends on what capitalism means for you. Finally, what are you suggesting as a replacement?
By: McOath. on 07 Nov 08, 20:10:15
That really doesn't answer my question, which was rhetorical if anything. I'm actually suggesting that even theoretical capitalism is deeply flawed and un desirablel for human beings as a mode of production.
By: richi1173. on 07 Nov 08, 19:35:30
How to fix the problem: Get the middle-class wealthy and spending again. The Fed cannot fix, no matter how much it devalues the dollar, the crash of stocks because all corporate gains are directly influenced by consumer demand. In fact, its only making the problem worse, creating inflation which is literally clogging the engine of the system- the middle-class. Get us back on our feet through stimulus and strengthening the dollar and you will see things get back to normal in about two years.
By: richi1173. on 07 Nov 08, 19:28:46
To your last question, not really. Capitalism allows for the gain and subsequent saving of capital by individuals and states in order for it to be used in times of crises. However, from theory to practice it is quite different, it largely depends on the individual's education on how to safely manage that capital. That capital can be money or commodities, which I would highly recommend buying because the dollar has been d-evaluating.
By: Moragauth. on 06 Nov 08, 08:59:15
Well someone needed to say this, to cut through the rivers of bullshit flowing out the mouths of the media and politicians and their intellectual "elite" that spin the ideology that cloaks them (e.g. Keynesians)...
By: gforceforever. on 04 Nov 08, 13:40:44
What will you do? What CAN you do? Ask yourself those questions each day before you arise, and perhaps you will "see" more than you wish to. God speed to a viable position where you can actually help others help themselves. So, are you planning a career in politics? There are places for the idealistic. Oh, perhaps a liberal education is what you seek, full of promise and diversion away from the painful truth...
By: gforceforever. on 04 Nov 08, 13:39:25
I do hate to throw books at you, but I believe the appropriate response to you is just that; please see Allan Bloom's The Closing of the American Mind. In it, you may discover the essence of why my attitude is less than optimistic with regard to your generation. I am, in fact, an educator. I see Gen X doing exactly what the media wants you to do -- nothing. I implore you to gather colleages and classmates to dicuss your plan to thwart the control that is exerted over you quietly.
By: joudheus. on 04 Nov 08, 05:13:39
It's never too late to educate. That's a poor attitude that does not solve problems.
By: gforceforever. on 03 Nov 08, 16:54:00
See Ayn Rand's philosophies, as well as Milton Friedman's (Nobel Prize winner) economics novels. Be advised that we do not have a democracy, either! Pure democracy is ONE-MAN/ONE-VOTE. We have a representative form of government. Something tells me that if you do not already know these facts, it is too late to educate you on them. What a sad state of affairs our country is in!
By: gforceforever. on 03 Nov 08, 16:51:31
AMERICA DOES NOT ENTERTAIN CAPITALISM! Capitalism is a laizze faire approach to economics, whereby there are NO GOVERNMENTAL CONTROLS on the system. America has a highly-controlled economic system in place, and has never committed to capitalism.
By: McOath. on 02 Nov 08, 18:25:15
so having defined the current system as not capitalism, What the hell is capitalism and how does it magically prevent the creation of the systems you have just demonized Mr. Paul. (best presidential candidate BTW). My understanding was that capitalism was supposed to go through regular cycles of boom and bust, bull and bear markets, constant cycles of crisis, now is that a system that's good for human beings? to be half the time in a worse state?
By: Kroque. on 02 Nov 08, 15:15:56
aaaaaaaaaaaah. this guy is a rightwing fanatic. Roosvelt save capitalims with the new deal( with the goverment) and that is a fact

"In reality, they are a rigged ponzi scheme. " Correct. The SEC rigs it.
By: DaveDoggOwns. on 29 Oct 08, 20:02:41
By the means of production, they mean the natural and capital resources. (The raw materials, tools, machinery, money, etc) Not the labor resources. However, that's not the definiton of capitalism I use. In fact, I try to avoid using that word for it is an anti-concept.
By: PaulaGem. on 29 Oct 08, 01:30:24
"Private ownership of the means of production" no problem... Unless by the means of production they mean MY LABOR and someone else claims to own it and taxes away the fruit of that labor.
By: PaulaGem. on 29 Oct 08, 01:24:40
Market Anarchy? you betcha. Big banks short the COMEX silver multiple times real silver supply, silver crashes - tail is wagging the dog. Stock market - biotech - Drug test comes up with an ambiguous response, more research is needed - normal., needed, the drug could still be a biggie. Stock tanks but investors hold - naked short selling. Capital markets are supposed to raise money and create economic growth. In reality, they are a rigged ponzi scheme.
