Cosmos was a major milestone in my life. as a kid I watched the spanish dubbed version, and now hearing Carl SAgan's real voice is kind of strange to me, but vangelis' music is so powerful and brings a lot of memories. Thks for posting this!

"So long as the universe had a beginning, we could suppose it had a creator. But if the universe is really completely self-contained, having no boundary or edge, it would have neither beginning nor end: it would simply be. What place, then, for a creator?" - Stephen Hawking

"ChuckHitler" heh, i love how atheism=ignorance. there are thousands of different religions and gods "believed" to be true. if you're christian, why don't you believe allah or zues? You can't can't disprove their existence, so then they MUST exist, right? so which god created the universe? which god will send you to heaven? i really hope more people get to watch carl's videos, it's truly a fascinating universe we live in! rip carl
By: ChuckHitler. on 08 Nov 08, 08:16:21
What happens to you for not belieiving in other gods of other religions? Well you've got ignorance out of the way.

If this sort of thing interests you, I would recommend reading Bill Bryson's "a short history of nearly everything" I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I also will ask you "what happens to those who beleieve in various gods"? All I can say for certain is that anyone who believe in God through Jesus Christ only, will be saved. Figure out the rest yourself.
By: Infynitra. on 24 Oct 08, 15:44:04
and what happens to you for not believing in the various other gods of other religions?

As Carl Sagan said, "seeking the deepest interrelations among things that superficially appear to be sundered, the objectives of religion and science, I believe, are identical or very near so. But the question has to do with the reliability of the truths claimed by the two fields and the methods of approach."
By: Lalo3001. on 09 Oct 08, 17:44:31
Thank you threedotsdead for posting clips of one of the greatest documentary series of all time! As for the message of Cosmos. All it was was a scientist (Carl Sagan)trying to make astronomy user friendly and accesible to the average, common man or woman. He wasn't trying to attack religion as some have posted, but just trying to explain and de-mystify a complex, complicated subject. That's all :)
By: robh00fd. on 08 Oct 08, 11:57:30
In the end, religion itself is not the problem, even though it lends itself very well to the crazies out there; uncritical thinking is. Inevitably, at the root of all hate crimes, racism, corruption and what not, lies uncritical, irrational thinking. If we want for a better world, 'religion must die' mustn't be our motto, for we'd be as aggressive and unthinking as the school of thought we hope to combat.
By: robh00fd. on 08 Oct 08, 11:56:10
I disagree. Religion shouldn't die; its role should be diminished, as PZ Myers said, to a 'side dish', something you do on the weekends. Religion does not have to be innately harmful. People can have a tendency to do harm, and they will always try to find some justification for their actions. If it's not religion, it'll be something else.
