This doesn't surprise me. If you played competitive hockey you would likely understand. Without fighting in the game your star players like Ovechkin would get put in the ground every shift without any consequences to the player doing it (other than a minute penalty, big deal if your star is out for any longer with injury). With fighting in the game this is kept under control. Even better w/o the instigator rule players ultimately police themselves instead of some weasel in NY doing it (Bettman)

So Im just relaying info not making any judgments but thats in fact the only reason he takes those classes. The flyers actually pay for those classes per Paul Holmgren. In conclusion I feel it has everything to do with his fights.u-jitsu specifically deals with grappling throwing and rapid punching unlike your traditional kung-fu. Secondly, I even saw the special with Riley at the Cherry Hill Ju-Jitsu class, when he and his instructor said he takes the calss specifically to gain an edge in his "own" fighting style to combat other NHLer fighters "specific" fighting style, thats the whole point of him tkaing those classes his instrucurer attends the games, they look over tape of who he may be fighting next, the next teams tough guy that is, than they go over how they can modify his style to continually improve.
