Was a great landing (saved by the pilot); not really dangerous...did you see how the pilot moved the plane "around the vertical axis?" Nice job. Also used the landing gear to "pivot" the plane to the left to line up with the center line.

It's a UFO. They're pretty common around Zurich. They drop in from time to time for a cup of hot cocoa, Swiss cheese fondue and cuckoo clock shopping. They've also been know to hang around the Cabaret Voltaire. They don't seem to care for skiing though.

Actually been onboard a 737 during an aborted landing. Man.. I don't really know how often pilots abort crosswind landings, but it's pretty damn scary for the passengers. I knew the chances for any drama was low, but a lot of other passengers did not, and there was some screaming and crying, and that just messed up a lot of the other passengers. We got down just fine on the second try though, but the whole time we flew around for the second aproach was really creepy.

well they probbly added power a while ago but it take the engines 5 seconds to spool up and onther 3 to to 5 seconds to go to full power. If you would go and pour all that fuel in their there would be a "flameout"

Yehh of course it was a dangerous approach. Hense why only certain ranked pilots could actually fly there since it used an IGS approach. Plus theres many more dangerous airpots that are not closed. Lukla, St.Maarten, St.Barths(Approach over a hill then nose dive for the runway which is quite short. Think of it as a smaller St.maarten but no fence for the beach and the hill approach can be used unlike TNCM)

shame?!? haha are you crazy?! if i was ever on a plane to Hong Kong and they told me they were landing in Kai Tak, i would shit my pants. i was in HK two weeks ago and our tour guide was mentioning about how quick HK was changing and brought up the airport. apparently Kai Tak was the most dangerous airport on the planet what with the buildings and the mountains. he's talked to a few of the pilots too and they hated Kai Tak xD so i'd rather stay safe than risk my life.

Took my co-worker Alex for a flight.
All the credit for this video goes to him. He has an amazing sense of camera.
I always wanted to see how my gears close to the runway and he did it.
Could be used as a nice crab technique demonstration for crosswind landings.

Thanks! but if you are so well aware of crabbing during crosswinds you should also know that stall at touchdown is exactly what you want to achieve... you want to render those wings ineffective right as you are are touching town to ensure soft touchdown yet a firm grip with the runway. Besides thats just the stallhorn, which actually tells you that you are about to stall, which again is what you wanna achieve when landing a light single engine airplane. all the best

Good Vid, wouldn't call it amazing as Crabbing is very common for Cross Wind Landings, but you did well. Camera control was just as good =P and thanks for the wheel down view for landing, something new!!! Shame about the stall as you touched down haha.

I totally concur- there's a huge difference between landing on FS vs landing with a 12-15 knot crosswind, with wind gusts on final. Nice landing- most POH procedures list it exactly the way it was done here.

No matter what they are they're right. Slipping to a landing can be effective but it takes much more practice and precision. This pilot nailed it here but its not recommended. The wing-low technique is best in a crosswind even if you land one wheel down. The shit hits the fan if you sideload a crosswind landing at some airports.

Reading through the comments on this video, it's apparent why I'm apprehensive about uploading my flying videos. I enjoyed watching, and I thought you did a fantastic job on the landing, but I swear everyone here is a critic. I guarantee over half of them are the flight simulator enthusiasts who have no idea what it's like to be under the pressure. Well i didn't mean to offend you. if you read through comments you will see a lot of people commenting just to for sake of writing something. I'd think it is preassumed that somebody who is flying particular plane is aware about the plane design and limitations. and yes, you do use the crab technique untill about the touchdown when you transition to slip. Different pilots do the transtion at different stage. I do it on short final or over the threashold to make my passengers comfortable... peace

A crash it incledibly unlikely especialy with the A380 because there are only 3 of them (I think) in service. None of the A380's in service are carrying anywhere near 700 passengers.

What I meant was, the job itself, working in a factory building planes, soon becomes very 'normal'. Now thats an odd way of doing statistics. One out of a thousand A380 crashed calculates to be the same death rate as one out of a thousand 767 or for that matter one out of a thousand cars. Basic math sometimes helps. And here its even a matter of life and death :-). Of course: Carrying more passengers risks more lifes. No matter if you do it by using bigger planes or more planes. So are you proposing to deny some passengers passage to safe their lives???

Dinimess2k7. The UK has a large aircraft industry and the a380's wings are indeed designed and built here. It's not that hard to belive that azzaroz's uncle played a part in designing it's wings, although he obviously didn't do it all by himself. I've never worked on the a380 myself but I work with people who have. It's really not that special - it's hardly like being an astronaut or fighter pilot! It's just like any other factory job.

The Airbus FBW system offers a sidestick priority logic. When both pilots operate his sidestick in the same or opposite direction both pilots inputs are algebraically added. Also, thrust levers are seldomly manually controlled. Auto-thrust is used for the majority of the time while hand flying.
