i gt diabetes 4 yrs ago. i've got an insulin pump, a sensor and i hav 2 fingerprick every hour. i ws in hospital 4 a year and a half coz of it. as i am writting this.. i am sitting in the playroom of a hospital ward (Great Ormand Street Hospital, GOSH) but i don't let it get 2 me. im 12 by da way and just this wk i've had 73 of those canyala things in my hands and feet. i doesn't ruin ur life! true it gets anoying but u can still have a happy childhood! it's not as bad as u make it seem!

Imo, you're exaturating. Yes you're 11, but if you were diagnosed october 2006 you only have it two years now... that's nothing, believe me. In a few years, depending on your attitude towards it, it can be a way of living instead of a disease. Take care and please don't try to see it as the horrible thing you're picturing it as now. It's just a way of living. You can't be a child anymore? Nonsense. I have it since I was 7 (I'm 32 now) and I had a perfectly normal childhood.

yeah, um, it's not "fair" but you just have to deal with it. there is no cure yet, so feeling sorry for yourself isn't going to do anything, much less create a cure. diabetes isn't great, but it's not the WORST. just be thankful for what you DO have and not what you have lost. i really hope you learn to help yourself and adapt to having diabetes. i really hope this video wasn't supposed to make people feel bad for you...

wow. . uhmm well lets start this off by saying you need to stop feeling sorry for yourself. im 13 and ive had diabetes since i was 7. it doesnt keep you from doing anything or living your life, you just have to test your blood sugar and give yourself insulin for the things you eat. no kidding its not fair but complaining about it wont cure it!! so stop taking pitty on yourself and just live your life like a normal person. you should go to camp nejeda its the best diabetes camp. kay bye

Wow...you must be a newly diagnosed diabetic. The sooner you stop being a victim of your diabetes you'll be much better off. Your diabetes doesn't control you, YOU control your diabetes. I've been living with it for over 10 years and am doing just fine - it's really only as bad as you choose to believe it is. Don't whine about it being not fair, be proactive and take care of it.

Thanks so much for all your concerns and care. Calvin is moving through life with vigor and exuberance. His latest A1C was 7.1, and he has nothing but a 4.0 for the past two years. He still plays soccer, and is a top defender on a top team in the local area. I can't believe how much he's grown in the three years since this video! He's 5'7" and 160lbs now!

I have type 1 Diabetes also. I am almost 16 now and was diagnosed at age 7 on Memorial Day of 2000, so I understand EVERYTHING you are going through. It is not easy living with Diabetes, but I am glad to hear that you are on a pump. Just keep fighting son, and god bless you. I remember the day i was diagnosed. I felt so bad that day that I walked back home from the school bus stop, I didn't have the energy to go to school. I would've gotten perfect attendance if not for that day (week actually). Took the doctor 4 hrs. to return with the results. All I can remember was him saying the word 'diabetes,' I'd never heard that word before then. I don't think I actually knew what it was until the next day... I will never forget that night, February 28, 2001.

My son Tyler was diagnosed at 10 months old. He is 6 now. He has been awesome with it. Somewhere in his twos he was waking up in the middle of the night and telling us he was low. He is very in tune with his body. He is not ready for a pump yet. I am totally confident that in the next five to ten years they will have cured this disease. With the recent discoveries that have made new cells grow and function without the need for stem cells, it will just be a matter of time.

That depends on how old/mature you are. :o) To a parent who loves you very much, it's important that you take care of yourself! Life with Diabetes is just like regular life--sometimes a little messy, with ups and downs. As long as the numbers are in good shape, and the A1c numbers are good, we are happy to try and give him as much control as we can. When it comes down to it, it's his to control, not ours. He will have to take total control at some point, and we must prepare him for that.

They've had dual acting insulins for years now. I used to switch between different ones. There was 90/10, 80/20, 70/30, etc. I stopped using them because Lilly quit making them. So, what they're stating here is not some new breakthrough, but, I'm guessing a resurgence of an old theme to a new group of diabetics. The only thing new I can guess is it that they've just combined maybe the lastest insulin(Humalog) with the older traditional types.

Point out that there isn't a blood sugar surge if you don't eat lotsa carbs, or just sell a new med? Type 2s can often easily blood sugar back to normal or much closer to normal (and reduce medication) just by eating lower carb diets. Type 1s can benefit as well. But tell them this? Look at sites from dr mary vernon, dr mike eades and thousands of forums and blogs of those who've cut or eliminated their meds by eating a healthier, less processed, and tastier diet.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of misunderstanding about Type 1. I was originally diagnosed as a Type 1. After I questioned "why" and "how" and had my insulin levels tested, the doctors apologized and re-classifed me as Type 2.

JDRF Walk for diabetes is great. Not only will it make people aware of this condition but also raise funds for research that will find help for the diabetics.

i love these walks it means so much to me to just see all those people there to support you and the other people there. we need a cure for diabetes SO bad... ive had type one diabetes for almost 6 years now.. and ive attended three walks..they give you SO much hope. if we dont get the cure, at least we can make life much easier to battle diabetes =)

I will be watching. I meant as a result of Gastric bypass at around the 4 year mark people start to become hypoglyciemic (sp) and myt wife is just past the five year mark. We have gone to the nurtitionalist actually several and all they do is point to the patented diet charts made for NON bastric people and expect it to just work. It doesn't. I should do a video on the "real" facts of gastric bypass, and how what appears easy to some is the hardest thing ever in reality.

JNJ your wonderful for making these videos like this. Can you also do the other end of the issue... Where the Sugar Drops... To make it interesting people (my wife is one) with gastric bypass will at about the four to five year out mark start going HYPO Glyciemic (sp) And, the expected diet plan doesn't work as it does for non GB people. From tond of reading online we have slowly learned how to make it work... But, even here surgeon has no idea of all that's involved.
