I am so glad to find this song on the Web!! The lyrics are so REAL you can FEEL them!! It's like you can almost see the child and Grandma talking. I had a lot of setbacks today, and I searched for this song, not knowing the song title or artist, just some of the lyrics. Yes "we are all moons in the dark of night. Nov. 1st of this year will mark the 10th year anniversary of my grandmuhma's passing. I was 10 years old when she passed and I've grown so much and accomplished so much. (eg. homecoming king, graduation, and now in college.) I wish she was here physically with me but I know and I feel her watching over me and I hope she's proud of everything I've done. I'm seeing my better days as I live and understand you have to be patient.

How High the Moon is a wonderful tune. Benny Goodman had a hit with it in 1940. Ella Fitzgerald sang it but it is not her's. Diane Reeves interpreted this song in her inimitable style. I love it. How could you even think to use the word "failed".

All of this great singers have their own ways to perform, it's just a tastes factor.First time I heard E. Fitzgerald I was driving a car and immediatly I felt something strong a weird great sensation the perception of vocals perfection. the song was night and day, 15 years are gone but I still remember that moment! I think it means somenthing for me. After that all the other version of Ella's songs became a failure for me I know it's my point of view and I apologies with other singers fans ciao!

It's cool that you expressed how you felt. It really sparks constructive debate. I love Dianne so I am biased the other way. Ella's version was memorable, but Jazz is about renditions. There is no definitive version. If that was the case the art form would stop there. You could also make a case that this is the reason the art form is where it is now. Just a thought.

I agree with you, the problem is this: when you consider one version the "definitive"or "ultimate" songs performance version it's hard to appreciate others artists version even when they're good singers as Dianne Reeves or DeeDee Bridgwater...but I know this is my problem...

Only generally speaking when when they try and recreate the sound that was unique to Ella, because a copy is never as good as the original, however in this case the arrangement is so different from the way Ella sang it that you can't really compare!

Dianne Wiest is wonderful and deserved the Oscar. She transformed into a character so completely unlike herself and was hilarious. And she was so beautiful in the movie. That shot of her in the park on the bench with Cusack. Now that's beauty! I don't think Helen Mirren was so very well-known then. I really should see BoB (and Tom & Viv). Tilly and Wiest both look phenomanel. I'm also sure that Wiest did deserve her Oscar, but I'm on the "Uma should have won" camp. Not because I'm a total Pulp Fiction junkie, but because there were such small tics and nuances Uma brought to Mia that made her an incredibly fascinating (and ultimately tragic and pathetic) character. Mirren was great, too, but weak when compared to Hawthorne.

Reminds me of the big phat band camp over the summer at CSU Northridge. What an amazing week. I was totally expecting the band to just come in the last day and play a concert, but they were there every day working with us all day. An unforgettable experience, learning improvisation from Andy Martin, (having Gordon over my shoulder while playing piano on a Goodwin tune was kind of scary, but hey, I learned a ton) and meeting Sammy Nestico was icing on the cake. Great video, amazing musicians!

If you read the liner notes for XXL, it says they recorded all the tracks for A Game of Inches, and then had Michael Brecker overdub his solo onto it from a different studio because he didn't have time to fly down and play it with the band.
