Why not form a real band? Great question. The reason is it takes years of study and practice to be a real musician and "create" music. Rock Band is a great way to mimick the process and play already published music. Look at the flip side, it creates a market for real musicians to create great music for others to mimick. Every one can have their fleeting fame and the market is expanded for profit to the original artists, the bar owners and other entrepreneurs.

It kinda looks like it, but I haven't used this program to say that it is. With Sessiondrummer 2 you can adjust tightness and individual volume and such, which is pretty neat. Cakewalk has a video about Sessiondrummer 2 up here as well I think.

yeah when they say "signature" they could be refering to the line of cymbals made by Paiste, or they could be refering to the product that was made in coalition with the artist. For example.....His snare drum is his own name signature snare, because he along with tama designed it for his own expectations.

well, one of the reasons is 'cause the cymbals he uses are Paiste signature series. Also, the only way drummers are different are by their own sound, and what they do, or what they use. For instance, John Bonham's (Led Zeppelin) signature sound was to have really huge sized drums with matching sized cymbals. Also, i don't know specificly about the snares, 'cause i don't use Tama drums, but my guess is materials, depth, the sort

The only thing that is triggered is the snare. I believe that he only uses that for "Every breath you take" to get that cliche "80's" snare sound like in the original song. They dont play "Regatta De Blanc" on the tour so its deff not for the delay with the cross-sticking.

Getting the Alesis kit is a step in the right direction. If you have the DM5 module, you can use the MIDI out of that to trigger any VPT software you want! I don't think your kit has dual zones, but if it does, you might want to get the Trigger IO instead. It doesn't have on-board sounds, but it is made to trigger software. Thanks for watching! -mikey

As long as you've got a MIDI output on the prodikeys, then yes you can record! Select EZdrummer as your output and the prodikeys as your input, then you're all set. You need to purchase DFH separately to use with EZdrummer, but if you've got them both, you should be ready to rock live! -mikey

You need EZDrummer to run Drums From Hell. So, you have both of those on your computer. You have your drums connected to the Alesis Trigger IO, then into your computer. No need for the Dm5 module. Unless you don't have a kit with rim and head triggers. If you just use one sensor, then you can use the Dm5 module because it doesn't do 2 zones. Does that make sense? -mikey

Well... I don't know what to say here. I'm not a fan of electronic drum sounds, only because I use the real drum sounds of the drum samples for recording. IF I had to choose, I'd go with Roland. Hahaha... I'm not sure what the point of your comment is. I can't deny that I'm not the best player, but Nobody can deny the amazing possibilies of Virtual Percussion. I easily have better drum sounds than most pro's do... and we all know I'm not a pro ;-) I carry my studio around in a laptop and a thumb drive, and can setup my entire rig in half an hour and can record a track in less than a full hour. Time is money in a studio, and I have paid myself back ten-fold by now... -mikey

Quick update I noticed using ASIO drivers in reason VS standard DX drivers makes a HUGE difference in the latency.....with ASIO there is literally no delay at all letting you just back out beats like nothing.....the delay with standard audio drivers can be a little annoying

Thanks Paiste. Best to view the entire "Tonal-Tuning" series on the channel. It's about training your ears to hear pitch and pitch relationships (intervals) from drums. It's a method that works. Take a look and let me know how it works out for you.

bob, first i wanna say that your awesome, but im young and my drumset is generic. and im having so much trouble tuning and finding a nice deep rich sound. i have evans clear g2 genera heads on the top and stock heads on the bottom. it makes me so mad that i cant find a sound that satisfies me. it usually is so bad i stop drumming for weeks bc i get so mad. im happy with my paiste cymbals, but i absolutely hate my drums. and right now i cant afford a new one. please help me

Pearl makes a rubber tip that acts like a shock absorber. Not sure if they sell it as a accessory but worth checking into. I believe legged floor toms that are properly cushioned resonate more than rim-type mounts. it's a weight thing. I have my large toms mounted but considering changing back to floor toms.

Bob, I've played a seventies Pearl kit of questionable quality for 14 years. Your video will help me get the most out of the Ludwig Legacy Classic set that's coming my way! The rack toms come with RIMS style mounts. The 14x14 and 16x16 floor toms are on plain old legs though. Should I try to get RIMS mounts for them? You said there are commercial products available that can isolate floor tom legs. Can you name any, because I'm not having much luck finding them?

That's an old late 70's maple Gretsch. Looser snare tension is another option especially for high impact performance. The tighter the snares, the "smaller" the sound. Loosening the snare and striking with much greater force creates a fuller tone. Just another sound option to consider.

I use the DW mini-timbales a lot but I consider them a "auxiliary" sound" that work in conjunction with, enhancing the primary tom array. However, concert toms can work well in particular musical genres...retro...Phil Collins,Who, etc
