I don't think most people realize this move was a showcase for the style they play, not their technique. Oh and those are high school kids playing the instruments, saw them in person, they're ok. I forget which but there is a drumline in North texas that is insanely better...

wow i apoligize i completely read your q wrong and figured i had to explain it from the ground up...then i looked at your profile and saw the drum kit - ha....yeah marching snare heads are made out of kevlar, which holds about 700psi at the weakest point, hence the hardware is about 4 times as thick as kit hardware. so they're meant to be hit harder (with thicker marching sticks), and you have to sound the same as other guys to get the 'clean' sound, so thats why its so 'dry'. that answer it?

its because they, like most percussion instruments, are meant to impose an implement of metronomical time...so their sound has to be distinguishable and stand out. snares are usually characterized by tight cracklike sounds, which is exactly what the ensembles needs them to be. bass drums, tenors, and other percussive mallet instruments do have tones, and snares technically do, as well, which you can hear after listening to other groups. marching snares are extremely tighter in tension and crack

its good and all, but (general question, not just on this video, to all marching bands) why the hell do the snares allways sound like shit? no fucking tone sounds like they are playing on a hard practice pad. is it that the snares they use are made for live sound and large audiances, (thicker ply)? they sound so empty and ive allways wondered why

lol, dude, I'm not the one writing in all caps. i'm just saying this stuff is beyond anything that is played in high school or college marching band. and my bad, there's only eight snares when the whole line comes out, but seriously dude. they're playing on two toms, a snare and a bunch of cymbals, moving around, blindfolded. think about the decel. at the end of the part with the whole line it's almost perfectly clean. the mental focus it takes to do that incredible

dude wtf are you talking about? i love blast, and i could do alot of that stuff, not the solos so much, just mostly the group stuff, and i dont even know nine snares, but its not even close to easy, youre confusing the shit out of me!!! im pretty good especially for my age, ive only been playing like five years and i advanced past most of the drummers i know, but no i couldnt do it that clean youre craaaaazy and i dunno wat youre talkin about. so CALM THE CRAP DOWN

ok, i do realize that i'm a trombonist, but I do also play snare, and one thing that you have to realize is the speed with which these people are playing those licks. maybe you could play them, but could you do them that fast? while telling a story through acting. they're not just standing there, and then the whole line comes in and it's really clean. could you play that stuff with another drumline that clean? with 9 snares? and still make it entertaining? this is not easy stuff to do.

well actually i live in Atlanta and Morris Brown, you know the purple band, they actually do play like that. its called showtime marching. there is believe chorus marching and then showtime. AT&T was based off the band in North Carolina. just search "Cold Steel Drumline". and the entire band plays like that. I think they got the uniforms from Southwest Dekalb High School though because they are the Panthers and the real AT&T is something else. i forget.

to all the people who hate on this video let me explane something. there are 2 kinds of drumlines, there is a thing called a corp style line, such as Phantom Regiment or the Blue Devils. for corp style lines the objective is to play extremly choppy beats very clean (my personal favorite) then there are things called Show lines. This is an example of a show line. theres more of a visual and groove aspect to it than playing clean. this is the show line equivilant of clean thank you.

There are at least 30 corps and countless university and HIGH SCHOOL drumlines that can trump these guys EASILY. I don't boast but I have marched in a corps drumline and I am persuing a masters degree in percussion - I am far superior to what this shit is, and I still know that I have a long way to go. This drum line is named "Top Secret" and they are from Switzerland. This was their first performance, granted it isn't the best vid of them, but they do win Tattoo after Tattoo. They drum in the Scottish tradition --- primarily snare and bass, seldom tenor.

I wish you people wouldn't trash these guys that say this line is dirty. The fact is, that's the truth. This line is dirty. Yeah, they may work day jobs, but so do the Buccaneers, the Caballeros, the Empire Statesmen, and CorpsVets (where I march). And I assure you we are ALL cleaner than this.

Okay every midwest drum corps has mainly white kids in the corps. West corps are typically hispanic or asian. Revolution all the way down there in texas is usually hispanic also. Think of the majority race in the area of the corps. If no other races tryout for the cavaliers... Then there will only be whites.

I love how some people are totally knocking this drumline. I think they're great. Yeah Texas has great drumlines....BUT, it's a different category. It's like trying to compare UNT drumline or Morehead drumline to Gramblin or A&T, you can't. It's HipHop and Rock, plain and simply. Go on tour with a top 12 drumcorp and you'll see. Hell the clown at the 4th of July parade in Bristol was even jamming. You can't enjoy this unless you fully apreciate music and the art of drumming.

I don't think its them coz they came to perfome in the KLWMBC ( Kula Lumpur World Marching Band Competition) which was held in malaysia... They were wearing white gold and black coloured uniforms and the drum line was black... But anyways... They won 1st price...... Gold with honour....

I play flute myself. been playin for 7 years. i changed skools after 6 yrs. now, i'm the loudest, fastest flute player in the band. no1 can hear anything BUT me, and the girl sitting next to me (who btw sucks at playing.) it's not hard to play loudly on a flute. Y'all might not get attention. but ppl can hear you. the only effort you put into volume is keeping a good, tight embochure and blowing air into the flute. try it sometime.

These are some show segments from our 2006 show. This is after our first show, so we still had the majority of the season to go. We are a discplined line who LOOSENED UP FOR THIS SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE DUE TO ENTERAINMENT PURPOSES!!! We are dirty due to this. We won state in drums in '04 and finished within top 5 the following two years. NCHS is the best high school drumline in the state.

when was the last time you saw a dci line? they run with 9 snares sometimes. this is a high school line and it's freestyle. they are allowed to look cocky and some what sloppy. but look at their stick height, most of the time it is all the same. back off, the kids did a great job.
