the more and more i listen to antoine the more i have came to realize he is a more technically gifted guitar player then anyone else on the planet. although Don the inventor of the style remains flawless. and mckee taking what Don created and making it so much more. with technique and grace. Dufour has mearly done the same with what Andy did. rose above and created something more. what he does doesnt even make sense half the time. your a rad fucking guy Antoine. props!

my comment is more about the direction of acoustic guitar composition not players per se' ... personally tapping is a technique not a composition, and in the fingerstyle world technique appears to drive composition ... Leo Brouwer wrote some amazing music for guitar but technique was the invisible backbone in his compositions, IMO the music transcended technique

You all are crazy.... j/k! Clearly Antoine is far more technical than Andy... in any way measurable. That's obvious. BUY their DVD... you'll see the precision with which Antoine plays. He's a perfectionist and it is godly... with respect to the guitar (in this case, a Taylor.. which I own and love!). He is obsessed with perfecting every note, and I LOVE THAT! Andy is, I'm sorry, more creative, yet less of a perfectionist. I LOVE THEM BOTH. They are both unique and INCREDIBLE!!!!!

Pull neck towards yourself=higher pitch. Push neck away from yourself=lower pitch. Basically like loosening/tightening the tuning pegs at short notice. If you have a cheaper guitar [like a squier] or something you'll probably find yourself having to retune the strings after the neck bend. Though...most people who play on a squier probably aren't advanced enough to utilize the technique during normal playing anyway lol.

This song is not super difficult. There are a couple odd fingerings, but it's all just straightforward picking, except for three one-handed harmonics. This isn't to say a beginner could play it right away, but anyone who's been practicing/playing fingerstyle for a while should have no trouble with this song. I memorized it in an hour, and played it end to end with few mistakes by the end of the week.

Wow.. Honestly I dislike most of the duets/trios from Candyrat. You end up with 2 or 3 fantastic guitarists who all produce so much sound the piece washes together. Antoine did a fantastic job of going to different registers and mixing up the rhythm so the two remain distinct from each-other. Great arrangement guys!

Better musician, maybe, better solo-guitarist, never. Antoine Dufour and Don Ross are the Jordan and Pippen of guitar. Not that they were the first, they put a up a bar so high for the righthand guitar technique, and the way you should compose a solo-guitar track. Uncomparable. JM might have the whole package, but dude, if he could play like those 2 he would never sing... And btw, this is not a JM video, so if you like him more, post on a JM video: This guy is better then the candyrat guys.

It is simply a quick up-down stroke on the E string with the thumb pick, then partially muted for the desired sound. This is a very fundamental part of antoine's technique, he does a quite a bit of alternate picking with only his thumb by use of the thumb pick. There's a good video somewhere out there on youtube where he shows a couple exercises to develop this skill.

Guilds, Taylors and Martins are not priced for a beginner. I would go to your local guitar center or music store and just try different guitars, and pick out the one that you feel comfortable with and sounds good to you. You would be surprised how good some of the lower end guitars sound. I have a 250-300 dollar Yamaha and it sounds great or like an Ibanez. But thats just some advise, peace!!

agreed all you need for similar tone is a cedar top and same body shape with out the cutaway to save some cash and of course instrument quality check out guild, washburn, taylor and martin to name a few too cedar top fingerstyle bodys are becoming more popular

The term phrasing (not frasing), is putting usually a couple of musical ideas and make it flow into "one" idea, like chords but maybe not in the same key, or different fingerstyle w/harmonics (like Antoine does a lot), maybe even using different timing (beats to a measure), i.e. coming from a fast passage/playing to a slower passage, much like what was done at the midpoint of this song!
