No one performs "For the Love of You" like like the Isley Brothers (they made the song). However, this is a great jazz twist on this classic song. She's Candy Dulfer, and that was a performance as sweet and enjoyable as candy. This was a candy-sweet rendition of a great song by the candy-sweet saxophone sounds of Candy Dulfer.

There are no absolutes in music. Music is a positive force in peoples lives. Trying to hang negative labels is .... negative. Perhaps you like simple patterns. A lot of powerful music is based upon simple repetitive themes and phrases. Jazz or funk does not need complexity to qualify it as good. Perhaps when you have 40 or more years of music behind you you might be more tolerant. Different strokes......

You know no one is claiming Candy is as great as Miles etc. You are very defensive. I checked out your page, nice music - but I love Miles, I like Candy. I see music as perhaps more inclusive. Everyone has a place. You can call it elevator music, but that comment says more about you than it says about Candy. Some people like bland food, some spicy food. I think when you said she didn't count - that was harsh. All musicians count in one way or another. I mean, I dislike Kenny G. but some people love him. To each his own, but everybody contributes in some way. Sure she is never going to be classed as the world's greatest sax player, but she works her butt off, and other player like Maceo Parker are happy to jam with her a lot. Sometime we just want a groove and we can go with it. Sometimes we want complexity and awe inspiring technique.

Geweldig document! Via de Hatena-You tube tegen gekomen. Ik woon al 14 jaar in Japan en ik heb Hans in '95 en in '98 gezien in Tokyo en Osaka. De live CD uit '98 bewaar ik als een trofee. Er heerste toen een heuse Dulfergekte. Hans steunde toen ook op een abnormaal goede band waarin o.a. een sensationele bassist. Als ik hem was zou ik een revival tour organiseren. Wordt gegarandeerd uitverkocht want die Japanners hebben het er nog steeds over! Otagi ni rei !!! Mark en Ellen Wiiteveen

Boney James, what can you say? Im a younger jazz fan, so dont jump on my opinion, but he has a swagger about him that only a few saxophonists have come close to... Euge Groove, Richard Elliot... I love Najee, but Boney has this like, smokey ambiance. I just love it.

What i like about it besides the fact that it is just outstanding, is that everyone is playin unselfishly. Its all about the groove. Nobody tried to do too much. They did what was necessary for the groove. Case and point, at 6:04 you see the camera on 4 amazing players as they form their own horn section and play back up. Not one selfish note. All about the groove. I could listen to this all day.

Candy Dulfer is one THE funkiest saxwomen I've heard. I was in Scandanavia years ago when "lily was here" was playing on the charts, and was very impressed. Her "funkability" has only grown since that time. Nice perfomance here.

I got a great seat, she played so many great songs which included "Lily was here" and "Picking up the pieces", and best of all, I got her autograph and her picture with me on my phone. Too bad the movie of that song is international, so I don't know if I'll ever get to see it. I think she's been performing for almost 20 years now.
