It was more accurate than this piece of trash was. C'mon mind guns? They didn't exist in the book. Everyone used knives. Sure some got their hands on guns but.... The worms looked awesome in the 2000 one. The fighting was more eventful than the 80s one. Though I do admit Sting (while not keeping character with the book) was more badass than that pretty boy fag they got to play Feyd in the new one. They both have their ups and downs. The new one wins in my book cuz its more accurate.

Honestly, from what I've read, it seems as if the only reason the original is flawed is because Lynch wasn't allowed to make the film the way he wanted to. The 80s was a rough time for artistic film-makers. Lynch originally wanted to make a 6 hour film (complete with intermission). The studio only allowed about 4 hours of footage (most of which can be viewed in "extended version"). The studio forced Lynch to edit the film to 2 hours.

Say what you like about the movie adaptation but it has more style than the later Sci fi Channel adaptations that made dune look like starwars. Lynch really brought that Retro futuristic post industrial look to the movie and for me that captures the essence of the Dune universe.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading the first two Dune novels, and for all it missed out (by necessity) I love this film, but the truth is no one could adapt your precious book could they? You see, I have never read Dune saga as a protest to anything. I've read it as story about humanity in general, choices, doubts, responsibility, religion, ad infinitum... There's much to those books than simple protesting, I think that all you have seen in this movie, and it's book origin is a first layer, surface, that book is not just a comment on environment, economics and politics, there is more than that to it. best regards and sorry for any spelling mistake, if any

I wish they ought to release a long Director's version of DUNE with maybe one hour of footage not seen in theatres. I,ve first seen the TV version back in the late 80's and it's a lot more better than the original version. they should put new sound and visual effects just like the original Star Wars trilogy back in the 90's and make it more better and more thrilling than ever.

Personally I blame Dino De Lewhat's his nut for how this came out. Watch other Dino De le..whatever films like Flash Gordon for example. Same F'ing movie in terms of how it looks. A lot of the early Stephen King movies like Cat's Eye and Firestarter is the same production as well. So you can't really blame Lynch all that much. The producer gets the final say in the end. Though I have to admit the Baron makes this film. He's completely f'ing insane. Best version of him by far.

With respect for Dune, but this version has lost the emotion that original has, the voice lacks in that aspect (soft, sounds more like a lullaby), and forgot to make strong one of the most important parts when the guitar solo plays (not in this version, indeed).
