Well something like that, hehe. Went to the grand opening of Monticello Motor Club's Grand Opening. The track was wet, so we only got to go for a ride in the all new 2009 Cadillac CTS-V, yes that the LS9 engine thats found in the new ZR1. The car is beyond sickkkkk...the S/C is so smoothe.... If I'm ever gonna get tired of the vette, I would get the CTS-V

Thats cool I have the disks but no player. I can't beleve they had this teconalogy back in 1964, amazing thats before vhs and beta tapes i think. I plan to get a pioneer laser disk player evenchally because i have 30 laser disks. cool video

Yeah, and quite fascinating that it works with a stylus in place of a laser. In fact, I own three CED players, although one is not working (Hitachi VIP-2000R). The second one I have is a spare (RCA SJT-200). My primary machine that is integrated with my A/V system is an RCA SGT-250. What would've been better, though, is VHD. Too bad that didn't make it to the States.

More or less. There were a few complications with the format, with one of the most notable being the disc construction. Prototype discs were composed of multiple layers. But the problem was that the layers would delaminate, which rendered it useless and could damage the player if playback was attempted. Eventually they invented a simple non-layered disc that could do the same thing but was more reliable. But, CED was expensive though I won't say that CED was why RCA sunk.

CED and VHD both operated under the principles of electrostatic capacitance, but only VHD was grooveless. CED discs have microscopic grooves that a keel-shaped stylus rides in. VHD discs, of course, are grooveless and employ a broad-tipped stylus. VHD had unique advantages over CED in that stylus pressure was lower with the tracking force being spread out on the tip instead of centralized at one point. Plus, VHD had higher bandwidth than CED.

Other factors were the initial difficulty with LaserDisc production, particularly from MCA DiscoVision. The problem with laser rot in the early 1980s did not help. And, there was also potential confusion from other videodisc systems: RCA's CED and even JVC's VHD (which was intended to be released in the United States but never was).

Well, there are many factors. One, most televisions back them weren't too capable of showing the increased resolution that LaserDisc offered. People were also thinking of a then-new ability to record video practically and with acceptable results, which wasn't possible with the playback-only LaserVision system. And then, in the late 1970's onward, the trend in movies on video went towards rental instead of purchase, which negated the lower price of videodiscs over pre-recorded video cassettes.

I wish Pioneer would have put in-depth info in their brochures and manuals about how their unique auto-reverse LD systems worked. Panasonic's Prism LX-1000u LD player used a simple (piece-of-junk) U-Turn system that didn't keep the laser properly aligned on both sides of the disc, thus severe crosstalk was created. Pioneer's did. I'd also like to know what "Gamma Turn" and "Epsilon Turn" means.
