There's pros and cons to both sides. More cylinders means smaller/lighter parts, which translates to more RPM's, but less torque at low RPM's. Less cylinders means that parts will be larger and heavier, capable of less RPM's but more torque at lower RPMs.

The guys below are correct, its an intercooler. The intercooler cools the compressed air coming from your compressor side of the turbo. The Air then goes back into the engine! This adds extra BHP because colder dense air produces a bigger bang in your engine when mixed with your fuel and ignited through compresson on a diesel due to friction or spark from plugs on a petrol.

Umm the fuel/air mixture does explode part of the reason the piston goes in and out, combust would mean burn but either way you could call it whatever you wanted. I work and develop engines and part of the basic understanding of how an engine works is the suck (air/fuel) bang (combustion/explosion) blow (waste gases through exhaust) principle. Plus the spark plug ignites the mixture to make it explode to force the piston back. No need to call anyone a dipshit when your not entirely correct!

why would it have glow plugs when its stored in a heated garage (glow plugs only help get it started, they are usually not on when they are running) Glow plugs would probably impede a bit of airflow onto the cylinders,so they would probably do without. As far as the fuel goes they probably just used high cetane, ultra low sulphur diesel.

Last but not least, yes an F1 engine, v-8 or v-10, would fit in an s2000. The chassis and driveline would need extensive modification. And who said anything bout putting the limiter at 8000rpm? It's not even in powerband untill well over 12,000rpm. The compression is low enough that comercially available racing gas would probably work perfectly fine.

To answer everyones questions:yes they did put turbos in F1's in the '80s. These engines were rumoured to make in excess of 1100 horsepower. BUt they switched to n/a's for safety, dropping output to 750-950 hp. They used 3 litre v-10's that rev between 17,000 and 20,000 rpm. Noadays, however, they use turbo v-8's, 2.4 litres displacement, with around 700-850 hp.

For example, Ford's 4.6 L OHC modular V8 is larger than the 5.0 L I-head Windsor V8 it replaced. GM's 4.6 L OHC Northstar V8 is slightly taller and wider than GM's larger displacement 5.7 to 7.0 L I-head LS V8. The Ford Ka uses the venerable Kent Crossflow pushrod engine to fit under its low bonnet line.

fuel economy high? you can argue that in comparison with other v8s of similar size yeah its somewhat fuel efficient but come on! The 1UZFE is a MUCH more advanced, efficient and MUCH more reliable engine than the LS and it's an import I think GM stuck with the push rod design because it would cost far too much to re-tool the production line. I think GM caught on to antiquity of the pushrod when they developed the northstar. I think they keep the push-rod in the vette as vintage and/or tradition.

Why would you say it's not an efficient design? Actually the LS1 onward are very advanced designs that combine excellent specific fuel consumption (great mileage) with tremendous strength, high power, durability, quietness, and smoothness. They took it as far as was needed for meeting the design criteria of one horse and one foot lb per cubic inch while keeping the engine quiet and fuel economy high. Good job by the boys at GM.

You're right in that it is fast, and a torque monster. In addition to sounding great, it is in fact quite efficient and a very advanced V-8 design. Top tier engine design with a great many advanced features, along with being extremely strong, durable, economical, quiet, etc. GM spent a good deal of bucks to cure the few ills the original small block V8 had, and went well beyond that set of limits in this fine little small block. If an owner wished, he could add more goodies, but why bother

Yeah they are rear wheel drive but my guess would be they replaced the entire drive train and made it chain driven to make it easier to use the hayabusas engine/transmission. A hayabusa engine has about 180hp stock so yes its enough power to make a smart car do donuts. But do the world a favour and don't "soop-up" your geo metro. If you want a small cool car to mod get a Chevette because they are already RWD and cheap.

I don't know crap about Cycles, just didn't think a cycle engine would be strong enough to push a car that fast, and didn't know how they would use the transmission. wow i love this car before watching this video i was dreaming about rushing traffic with mini cooper some day but this thing is excellent. i have my own workshop will try to make same by using chasis of "reva" a battery powered small but good balanced car and almost similar to this

btw, the ferrari 599 uses a cast block. regular car blocks are cast first, then decked by a cnc machine. a billet crank case like this would be expensive but you would ovoid inconsistencies from the casting process.

i was beween learning python and ruby and when for ruby because of the rich MVC frameworks that unlike this are OPEN-SOURCE --rails, merb etc. I've come to really like ruby, although i have many gripes about rails--havnt tried merb cause it doesnt have much documentation. i think the pure OO in ruby is awesome and it doesnt try to assert any formatting onto to, you can do it completely is old java/c++ type syntax if you want

I have mixed feelings towards this. Whilst the demo was extremely quick to show, it certainly lacked complexity. I would like to see a demo which had : a) A more complex structured object and associated databases (that looked like all SQL had to be hand coded, ouch) b) More complex business logic (where would all the business logic be defined? Where can default actions be defined for administrative functions? How can Individual user actions etc be defined?)

You're not really aware of what you are saying.Your current M50 engine produces about 245-250 Nm of torque, which is needed by the weight. The F20C engine has only 207-220 Nm, though 240-250 PS. The car in the vid had an M40 1.8 engine, which really is scarce for the E36. Even compared to a turbo 1.8, the F20C is the better choice. But not in your case. If you want to mod, try the intake, if the M20 could bare it, so can the M50. And rather be happy having a car (moreover, a BMW!) with 20yrs...

Don't worry folks, it was only a 318i. The F20 motor is actually bigger than the stock unit. It's also just a fantastic engine. Not a bad idea considering how available these engines are in Japan. I'm a huge bimmerphile, but this doesn't anger me a bit.

Yes, no doubt they would have had access to CAD files, but that presents its own set of headaches. First off it's usually a massive amount of information when you're dealing with car stuff running into gigabites and it all needs to be made sense of. And second, you usually have to do a ton of work on the files to get them into the kind of shape you need for them to work cleanly in your 3d package.

If you want this to be successful you need to have beginner tutorials. You start off saying how much easier you make it for everyone, some guy starts coding python in a way I've never seen it done before. I've taken python tutes and did well - but I'm a 10 year PHP, JavaScript and ActionScript developer so I'm going to need a lot better overview of what you're doing.
