Overpriced? At the time I bought it, it was $749. It was a "REAL" Gibson LP. I didn't have to change pickups because it came with burstbuckers, and I didn't have to spend extra money for a hard case, because it came with it. Now my VM is going $999. Probably because it has become quite popular.

Hey, all. DCmey can stick with his (overpriced) Gibson if he likes. I've been playing for 26 years and I just sold a Dean LP copy and bought my own genuine Les Paul (Epiphone) which I love. Like the guy in the video says, it all depends on what you as a player like. I happened to find a really good Epi, so I took the plunge.

It is common knowledge that Epiphone which is owned by Gibson makes 20 or so copies of Gibson guitars. Wilkipedia mentioned it on the website about Epiphone. If people want another unbiased source to call Epiphone LP's copies I will find one.

If someone calls a Squire a Fender I would call it a copy. People were insistant that epiphones LP's weren't copie guitar. If you go o to Wilkepedia and scroll down you will see they make about 20 copies of Gibson guitars. It says the word COPY, it isn't a person expressing their opinion it's fact. Just to be clear if you prefer an epiphone over a Gibson, I don't have a problem with that.

Whatever. I guess that's why Les Paul has authorized his signature to be on the Epiphone, like all other copies. And make sure you go to the Fender Standard Series guitars videos and post comments about those "copies" -- See what they have to say.

You could use any amp really...the guitar is what gets your sound...the amp just amplifies it and maybe changes the tone that comes out...but the density of the wood is what gets you your sound.

At 3:14 the amp pulled down Zakk Wylde's pants. You can clearly hear the tapping mistakes he does there. Cornford amps (he uses marshalls live but in this video he uses Cornford) are very bright and dynamic and may pull down your pants if you make mistakes.

Fala aí. Eu aconselho sim, dependendo do tipo de som que você toca. Ela aguenta volumes altos sem feedback, se não usar muita distorção e nao ficar de frente pro amp. Uma casino te dará muito mais problemas de feedback porque ela nao tem bloco central como a Sheraton. Abraço!

If you have that kind of TS I would experiment with op amp chips. I got a JRC4558 for mine and there was some improvement. There are also other mods you can do which drastically change the personality of the pedal. I'm planning to do my own build soon from a BYOC kit.

my E kept coming off my Sheraton. I took it off! I took the whole pick guard off. In my opinion it looks way cooler and it shows off the f holes. The arched top keeps from scratching with the pick. I have the TS9 tube. It sounds "nasaly" haha and i dont use it AT ALL. I know you can buy a chip for it but dont know if it would help. Do you know?

Yes, the stock set-up for 3-PU Gibsons is to have a 3-way toggle, with the middle selection activating the middle and bridge PU. Many guitarists however replace the switch with a standard 3-way toggle from a 2-PU Gibson (with the middle PU not connected to it) and have the middle PU on its own volume and tone controls, so that it (or the other two PUs) can be blended in or out at will. This said, the Gibson USA SG-3 - I own one - has a 6-way rotary selector, giving Ne/Ne+Mi/Mi/Mi+Br/Br/Ne+Br.

I've always been a fan of three-pickup Gibsons - I own several of them. The middle position of the 3-way toggle sounds very Strat-like because it engages the middle and bridge pickup together, something which is usually incorrectly dubbed "the out-of-phase sound" - the pickups are actually IN phase, though. This all said, Ephiphone Gibson copies are not the real deal, but they come very close and they're well-made, for a decent price. ;-) Oh, and cool playing, by the way. Great demo. ;-)

Gibson opened that qingdao factory only for Epiphone so they dont make GIBSONS. China produces tonnes of fake instruments even Fender, Musicman, PRS and others. The one you are going to buy is a Fake unless it's pre-owned and the seller is selling it cheap. but it goes well over 900 USD I guess.(it was over 1000$ when i last saw it. Careful :

For that kind of stuff with more gain I would recommend a solid-body guitar. If you're going to be using distortion, then you want a solid-body (les paul, strat) or semi-hollow (Riv), definitely NOT a fully hollow guitar like the Casino.

What effect is that at 3:11? It's like some delay or echo plus idk what else but you could do some cool crap with that one effect alone. I'm getting a KP3 Kaoss Pad soon (not for in my guitar I'm gonna keep it seperate) but the band I'm in, we play alot of metal music, and we get inspiration from Slipknot (their DJ, Sid Wilson uses a KP2 Kaoss). Hi, probably not... I would suggest checking out the classics like the Marshall DSL series or some of the Peavey 5150 series heads and cabinets. They are the type of amps that Eddie used to get his sounds so it goes to figure that they would be a better choice. Good luck

For anyone interested I'm showcasing the higher end Epi Broadway, the Japanese made Elitist. The guitar is strung with D'Addario Chromes 13-56 and the light e-string is a 14. Starting out all acoustic, then adding some volume. The last part is improvising over one of my originals with a rhythm section.

I agree, Sister :) I love the sound of the AC30 but thats what you get with it, also in order to overdrive it you have to turn it right up, and that is often way too loud for most venues. This Epi would be much more versatile, but for around the same price there are also the Sound City amps that are not bad, so try them all.

Because 50 watt on a solid state amp are normally enough for small and medium sized clubs. But this is a whole tube amp and will sound much louder than a solid state one - because tubes compress the sound and add harmonics. This is the theory. Then there is the fact that I regularly gig a Vox 30 watt tube amp and regularly have to turn it down.

Gibson 335 vs. Epiphone DOT

I'm comparing a Gibson 335 to an Epiphone DOT. I'm not sure how old the Gibson is... it's at least 20 years old. The Epiphone is only a couple years old, and it has the stock pickups in it. I'm playing through a Roland Cube 30.

I have an epi dot vintage sunburst. I thought it was going to be more of the tobacco sunburst but turned out to be the same as the sheratons except for the chrome hardware and dots. I liked the look better and decided to keep it. I use D'addario flat wound strings. As for the video, I think the Gibson sounds better. Also there seems to be a little awkwardness in fingering when dcooper plays the epi. Otherwise both sound great. Wish I could play like that.

Hi, thanks for the demo, very interesting. I'm thinking getting rid of my Variax 600 and getting a dot. I only seem to use it on the 335s. It will be useful to compare, I'll take the 600 with me when I try out the dot. Cheers

The Gibson has a more even tone that sings a bit more that the Epi. I have a Epi Dot which I love. If you luck out and get one with a quality neck and fret job, then they're comprable if not better than Gibsons. I put a pair of Gibson alnicos (490 and 498) in there and the thing rips. I played my friend's 335, and I liked the way mine sounded and played better.

So i guess my sheraton will probably sound more equal to the gibson if the dot sounds sorta close to the gibson. I can tell the difference though. I hate dots.They dont sound as full or rich as the gibson or sheraton. The dot just sounds more trebely and weak although they use the same pick ups as the sheraton.

They sound the same, maybe the Gibson sounds a bit better if you listen to it carefully, but if you considerate the price( E=500$-700$ G=1000-3000$), the quality of the Epiphone is the best. And anyway the type of guitar doesnt change a lot (maybe 10% of the sound), the choice of the amp and the type distortion you use is way more important.

Gibbson Slightly Better Tone, But, With some modifications, I'm sure it could sound even better. You're better off purchasing any Instrument at dealer, Than Online, Because You have so much instruments to compare them too. Play a Dozen Epi's if you can, You'll find one that'll match up closely to the Gibson. I should know, I've done, Plus I have a 20 yr old Gibson, And, My Epi, Stands right along side of it. Tone, Action Great!

A good player will sound good on any guitar. Having said that, the A/B test here does show that the Epiphone is indeed a very good guitar. Those 57 Classic Epiphone Humbuckers sound very similar to the PAFs in the Gibson. The Gibson is 20 years old too, which will also make it sound better. I gig with both Gibson and Epiphone 335s and it's the weather that is the deciding factor on which one to take. Gibsons don't like hot humid conditions. All my Epiphones stay in tune no problem.

Personally I think the gibby sounds better than the epi but is it a 2600$ better? Epi- is around 400$ Gibby-is around 3000$ I guess if you have wads of cash lying around then the gibby's a better buy but for somebody who doesn't have that much money- go for the Epi Dot.

What the heck. Your not gonna be able to tell a big difference playing through a solid state amp. get a matchless or a vintage fender amp in there and they both are gonna sound off the chain. but ya there is a little more natural break up in the gibson which is ballin. good demo though

Thanx for the demo dude.This is a good example of the idea that much of our tone,regardless of instrument comes from personal technique.Yours is nicely advanced. Wow. They both have some nice details and good points in the sound. Seems like the dot would be nice for choppier rhythm stuff even with the stock pickups, which is kind of what I'm looking for. (Think Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead) Was thinking of taking a Dot and putting a set of EMGs in it or Alembics with a boost pot like the afterburner or the stratoblaster. :D

Ive been a metalhead for 35 years & have had all kinds of amps & after searching for years for the right sound & recently having a Line6 HD-100 Halfstack fry out on me for no apparent reason I tryed the NEW VOX AD50VT-XL & ended up buying two & run them both through a stereo chorus pedal. Finally while running a EMG-P/U Ive acheived the best sound ever for only 828$ taxes in . Try this out friends & get ready to be blown away , its not true stereo sound but its as good as it gets for under 1 G
