I cannot agree with you entirely about Carlin, Aplondrick. I agree that he was certainly no Great Thinker, and I am sure he would admit he was not. He was very adept, however, in pointing out nuance re: the use of language. He criticized those who used fuzzy words to conceal their real message, and showed how imprecise language could skew the way people think about things. I always considered Carlin to be a linguist who just happened to be really funny.

The price of a house in my opinion is three times or more it's actual value. Their made of the cheapest materials they could find and sloppily assembled. It's nothing but wafer board, cheap studs, engineered beams, drywall and a coat of paint, but young people didn't see this so here we are. LOL

Pretty good stuff but like most economists and commentators he fails to mention that the housing bubble is really a land price bubble not a house bubble. Houses/improvements to land do not appreciate but land value does. This is due to the fact that the improvements can be increased indefinitely while the supply of land is relatively fixed. When "housing" prices fall it is speculative land prices that fall. Modern economists refuse to treat land separately from capital. Why is that?

This is exactly what I have been predicting! How can a 3 bed 2 bath home in So. Cal that was worth $250,000 in 1996 be worth $900,000 in 2006?? It just doesnt add up! More people should know how amazing this band is. A local bar, recently installed one of those internet juke boxes and well eventually I was like, they need to hear some Sunny Day Real Estate so I played "Seven" and told everyone this is probably the best song ever. Anyhow this band is epic. Before this band all I would listen to was pretty much straight punk (and Tom Petty ha) then in 2000. I heard Diary. It totally opened my mind. Foreshadowed the whole indie thing I do now.

Not to say we will be immune but a few differences: Less than 1/2 the per capita national debt and ours is dropping. Appreciating currency and 1/2 the inflation. A much smaller service sector a much larger resource sector. As other currencies jump in value and the US dollar drops they will still need the uranium, oil, copper, nickel, gold, diamonds etc etc that we produce in spades. Avevo 9 anni e ricordo anch'io che questa canzone si sentiva dappertutto. Pensavo anche che solo la stravaganza dei Righeira poteva fare uscire un brano con un titolo simile all'inizio dell'estate. Geniali anche in quello!

la canzone piu' bella del 1985,avevo 10 anni e ricordo che la ascoltavo al mare,in radio...mi comprai anche la cassetta e la riascoltavo in continuazione....grandi righeira,vennero anche al concerto a civitanova marche(la mia città) e strinsi la mano a michael... il simbolo degli anni 80, GRANDISSSIMI

Gli anni 80 musicali in Italia a differenza di altri paesi (Usa ed Inghilterra in parte nonostante Queen, Bowie, Smiths, Cure...ecc) sono stati i più floridi dal punto di vista sperimentale... perciò ogni canzone sorta in quella decade anche se può sembrare disimpegnata è molto molto curata e studiata

Quanti ricordi... io facevo il bagnino a ostia e alle 19:00 quando mettevo da parte le sdraio e gli ombrelloni, la radio mandava questa canzone e quando era settembre, con la luce del sole che a quell'ora era tramonto inoltrato... capivo che un anno (estivo) era passato e mi aspettava tutto quello scolastico. EHHH c'era una versione piu' soft solo piano.. che proprio ti riempiva di malinconia.. ma a quei tempi erano altri i problemi....
