My daughter is 6. She's biracial. Adult strangers & family members alike say that she should be a model. However, she is already crying after school when classmates say she's ugly or that she's adopted, etc. Simply telling her repeatedly that she's beautiful doesn't seem to be enough. I am so glad to see a media campaign to address this issue. By high school it may be too late for some girls.

I am a huge advocate of such advertisements... achieving beauty is really a lot easier than those girls think... simply because they already are :). Maybe if people put aside those concerns and start looking at the world around them, they will notice that there are a lot of larger scale problems in this world, other than being slightly overweight or not conforming to standards set by the ignorant part of society.

I think that all superficiality breeds from television, magazines, and the internet. But moreso TV. Television is such a household thing for young people and old that they will never turn it off, they will just switch the channel. You have a choice on where to go with the internet. The media directed at young girls primarily sends two messages: 1) Being beautiful is VERY important. 2) YOU are NOT beautiful. I'm glad Dove is trying to contradict the second message, but I'm not sure it's going to be very effective simply because they are still reinforcing that there *is* a beauty ideal in the media, even if they don't uphold it. I'm not sure they're even bothering to contradict the first message... figures.

i like the message that dove is trying to send out, and i love the workshops there doing, but i just feel like there contradicting themselves as a beauty indusrty. 17 is doing the same thing with teens. they always have articles about feeling good about yourself, however they are still a magazine that shows standard models as opposed to average looking people i would be able to relate to theis more if it had an ACTUAL overweight child struggling with fitting in as much as i did when i was young.

I did notice though how funny it is that when I look at others who are supposed to be bigger than I am, I see beauty. I can't speak for everyone else, but I think that people distort their body image because they want their own sense of "freedom". They want to be able to feel like they can be beautiful in order to really make the other qualities about them blossom. Someone came to me and cried "I'm not being appreciated whatever I do the boss doesn't like me and puts me down." He was very frustrated about it and I told him the problem was not his boss's problem the problem was his problem. First he suffers from low self esteem and second problem is approval seeking. Approval seeking behavior sets up very bad expectations and you won't be happy at all.

wonderful advice for me. Thank you, Datta. One of my dogs has great self confidence, calmness, self-directedness and that made him a really good service dog. I could count on him not to get rattled or upset by anything. He accepts pettings, but he doesn't ever ask for them. That's the nature of the chow chow and that's why some people don't like them. Some Chow chows have a mind of their own and a sense of self that is so solid.

Paul Washer is right about modern day american pastors. When you become a new creature, it is the supernatural work of God and not just 7 steps you do to yourself. If you follow Joel's method then it just proves that God is not a work in your life so you are doing it yourself. The world will accept false prophets and will despise the holy spirit in true pastors. I would question any book that becomes a best seller, but thats just me.

Paul Washer has shaken my faith out of sleeping. After watching his videos I recognized the truth in them and after a day of fearful trembling I actually began to cry, I suppose selfishly for the fate of my own soul. All I've ever done is listen to people on TV and read random, not starter-essential parts of the bible. Sam 16, 7 he cant. Only God can see into the heart. So if he claims to be able to divide people up if they are saved or not, its just not right.
