There are things in Evangelion meant NOT to be interpreted, for example, Misato did NOT kill Kaji, Mr. Anno STATED this as a fact the same for anyone who even suggested Kawrou was gay. The message, what you get from it, events during and after the ending, THAT is up to you to decide. Evangelion has canon, non-negotiable truths to the story, Shinji was abandoned, Asuka's mother lost her mind, Misato was a 2nd impact survivor, the Evas are actually human etc. Fact, even if you don't like it.

Because he changed the characters into something cheaper, and for invalid reasons, he made the manga, his work, into the lesser of the two. No, Kawrou, regardless of interpretation WOULD NOT KILL A KITTEN IN THE ANIME, he was NOT angst over Shinji's feelings, he was NOT SADISTIC, he SACRIFICED HIMSELF, because he thought SHINJI, HUMANITY deserved to live over him, that is a FACT, his own statements and actions on the matter prove it, there is no room for your own call on that.

Here's the thing though - Evangelion was designed so that everyone could walk away from it with their own interpretation. The manga is Sadamoto's interpretation of the characters and events. He changes a few events for plot and pacing reasons, but it's his personal interpretation of the series. Isn't it in the spirit of the anime that so many things are changed to show his interpretation? I'm done with this, it's not like I've committed a mortal sin by enjoying and recommending the manga.

We don't know at all what their role will be, the best guess is the pilot of -05, but how she will affect the story, what her relationship with the other characters will be, if she has one at all, is unknown. Right now, Rebuild is lacking because it cut so much out, this could at the variety it needs to stand on its own.

He was a stereotype, which is completely contrary to the message of Eva, he was an asshole, a wise ass, and his anger was overdone. No, Kawrou is not a sadistic bastard in the anime because he SACRIFICED HIMSELF, and NEVER meant to string Shinji along, while the manga version of him got mad at his "rejected" feelings, thinking only of himself, there is no comparison, that is a FACT. Ritsuko was no more or less in either, Toji was dumb, only Kaji recieved anymore expansion in his character.

Shinji was more apathetic than in the original, yes, but his anger was every bit as understandable as the detached loner in the anime, and Kaworu IS a sadistic bastard in the anime depending on your interpretation of the character. Besides, how many more depths of Kaji, Ritsuko, and Toji did we see in the manga? I don't see why we're having this argument, all I did was tell a Rei fan that he'd like her development in the manga.

The problem with that is the anime is considered canon BY GAINAX. Furthermore, yes they WERE cheapened, Shinji past was altered into an even more dramatified craphole, and he himself was turned into a shounen stereotype even more apathetic than the original, Asuka's past was also screwed with completely wrecking her motivations, and removing dimensions of her character, and most of all, Kawrou went from a caring christ like figure to a sadistic BASTARD, how the hell do you write THAT one off?

The characters weren't "cheapened" in the manga. It's true that some of them have different personalities, but they're just as well-developed as they are in the anime, if not more. The anime is the work of Anno and his writers & directors, the manga is Sadamoto's personal interpretation of the story. It's not the "canon/non-canon" BS you usually get with anime/manga adaptations, it's like the difference between a film and the book it's based on. They're two versions of the same story.

Its changing the story, events are out of order, other events are compeltely new and did NOT happen in the original canon. There was NO Eva-05, or -06 in the original, there was no girl named Mari with glasses and pig tails, that conversation where Shinji squeezed Misato's hand and Msiato REVEALED Lilith AS LIlITH (whom she still thought was ADAM as late as episode 20) did not occur. The origin HAS CHANGED, you need to watch Rebuild more closely, you overlooked the contradictions.

Yes, it is, different events as we've SEEN, I've SEEN Rebuild 1.0, so I KNOW that's a fact. Different character, different Evas' different events, it's an alternate reality, that's what the majority of the evidence and what Anno himself has alluded to.

The anime was written before the manga it is as the creator intended, the manga is both another person's vision and an absolute perversion of the characters whom were cheapened over base character traits. Its not "the other creator", Sadamoto's role was to create the visual image of the characters, and to offer an idea or two, but Anno created them, their personalities the very essence of who they are, their blueprint, came from HIS mind not Sadamoto and for that he understands them the best.

Unlikey, Anno has only stated to leave the original series where it was, the entire idea that this could connect with the original came not from him nor what any of what the production crew have stated, but from people's own subjective theories after a few scenes in the first film. The new ending will most likley be less dark, more optmistic, as Anno wishes for the message to be a bit more accessible

i think rebuild might conclude everything. the ending in EOE is after the black moon was risen from earth, the big orb in Rei, lilith, hands. everyone was turned into the LCL liquid anf flowed back to where they came from, the black moon. whereas the angels came from the white moon(the geofronts , >:3 ) i'm not sure what the ending poses, when shinji rips out of Rei's eye and rei dies. might be symbolic in that we all die and form into somthing new. Shinji and Asuka become adam and eve. maybe?

Actually, it's also a name used to refer to a Freudian concept known as the death drive, a will in the mind to move towards destruction or non-existance. Considering the tone and influences on Evangelion, I'm rather sure it was this the song title was referring to, not the god.

It's an odd choice, certainly; and I wouldn't think a traditional AMV with these two would work. I don't think this one's really telling a story, though; I think it's using the Evangelion clips to provide spectacle in accompaniment to the music, and occasionally dishing up an emotional hit from what we know of the series - more like a traditional music video than the standard AMV. Normally that would be hit-or-miss, but in this case, I think it works tremendously well.

This show i never got....I was little when i watched it. Now i just watched the whole series and its depressing. I loved Asuka but she dies in the end...I only wish Asuka and Shinji were with each other longer. Such a sad story....It reminds me of my pathetic/depressing life. Such sadness.....

Exactly, the movie is a lot more about action and the graphics, not so of a complicated plot or Shinji's depression. I also noticed that they made the EVAs a lot more mechanic, there weren't so many hints of them actually being... well, you know, like in the original series. However, the movie for some reason stresses the Angels being... well, more human. They all actually bleed and one of them even sounds like it's screaming like a woman when hurt!

I don't think it was made entirely clear, but there were plenty of strong hints. This is in fact a signature of sorts of the evangelion series - almost nothing is made clear, but there are strong hints for everything, and you are free to come to your own conclusions. Reflects the way we live life.
