I learned this song on guitar for Uni. Even though I could play the correct notes in the correct order with the correct rhythm and correct louds and softs, I sounded like a pile of meaningless notes compared to Evans. You really have to 'feel' the song. Evens is a master.

I used a c.d. of this successfully many years ago on continuous play as a sleeping aid.His playing and his touch were quite unique - but there is a pervasive melancholy present throughout much of his playing-especially his work with Jim Hall-possibly reflecting the mood problems associated with his personal life. I don't compare jazz pianists but the gulf between projecting happiness(Garner) and sadness(Evans)is vast and such that we can enjoy each from a totally different perspective

So fewer choices??? Besides, games what fewer choices do you have. There's always a substitute of a Mac version of everything. I know you can build a pc thats gonna be better. I should've mentioned that My mac is a macbook, and its not fair to compare laptops to desktops because desktops are always cheaper and more powerful and you can''t just go build a laptop. And you don't even have to download anything to get spyware, some sites do it automatically, it was just a literary device I used.

absolutely amazing, real fine place is probably my favourite of her albums, but it's a difficult choice as all her songs are absolutely fabulous, she is one of the few singers who can really take you on a journey with their voice and make you feel how they want you to feel. i love the way that all of her songs can speek right to you and really mean something. absolutely amazing i adore her voice!! sorry if that doesn't make all that much sense

Yeah Bill Evans really complimented Miles Davis well. Yeah I know Miles Davis had a lot of difficult experiences with whites so I'm not saying that his stance wasn't understandable for someone in his position, however after reading his autobiography he definitely struck me as not being too fond of white people; he thought that white people liked "Kind of Blue" so much only because Bill Evans was involved.

Maybe Miles was more of a racist, or not, I don't know, and I don't really want to speculate. Miles did turn his back (literally) on audiences that had too many whites. But whites have given Miles plenty of reasons not to like them. Regarding being a better musician, that's not a one-sided question. On one hand, Evans had better technique, but we're comparing piano to trumpet. On the other, Miles was more influential. But, that was due in part to sidemen like Evans.

I just downloaded 'Bill Evans_The Complete Fantasy Recordings_09_01_Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz Interview' off Emusic (about 53 minutes for the cost of 1 track! - cool). What a really nice guy! Really generous and easy going. Obviously an amazing talent. Maybe the best there's ever been (at least in jazz). Wish drugs hadn't got him. And boy could he find bass players!

But let's not fool our selfs - the musical sophistication required to perform something like this is way beyond Ulrich and the guys. Just listen how Monica catches up on Bills syncopation around 3:40 and changes her phrasing. It's subtle - it's perfect.

I think so too. I've been around pro jazz musicians for most of my life & never met one who would make the kinds of statements PERV does.We encourage each other, not run each other down. Every instrument has it's part to play in a combo setting, & we talk to each other thru our solos & comping(we also don't brag about how much money we have & real estate deals.)

I never said anything about Bill Evan's playing. My objection is to two things. The first is that you even try to compare instruments as one being better than another when they serve different purposes, and secondly that people who play one are inherently less talented that someone who plays another. My challenge is simple. If you think bass or drums requires no musical ability, then go ahead and try to play something good on one of them. Otherwise, shut the fuck up :)
