I hope more people get hurt or killed. Sorry, it sounds harsh, but it's the only way people will learn that this "sport" is brutal and barbaric toward a gentle creature who never asked to be involved in such brutality. Yah, these are "freak" accidents, but they are brought on by humans. Ooh....can't wait for the backlash from all you eventers!! ;-)

acctually, the rider gets it worst I fell of 4 years ago, on a courses and my right knee popped out it's socket and did a 360 then popped back in. oh yeah my horse fell on top of me then stepped on me getting back up. The horse was fine of course

God damn it, can they fuck up the great sport of eventing anymore than they already have? Look, there's is nothing that FEI or anyone else can do to make it sexy to people who don't know the ass end of a horse from an engine block. Quit trying to please average joe. He isn't interested. He's off watching basketball and be content to leave him there! Eventing was just fine as it was, and a fewer horses and riders. Each day so,so many horses are injured, knocked, and killed through theses solid fences... of corse the riders will say they love it, they arn't going to say they hate it.Why do you think they go around with spurs and whips ? What a truly amazing horse. This horse was brilliant at what he did. He has left a big space left to fill in eventing. At least he died doing something he enjoyed.

Owners and riders all know the risks associated with sports like eventing and racing, if you don't want to lose a horse then simply don't compete it. There is always a risk with equestrian sports that everything won't run to plan and freak accidents like the one with Call Again Cavalier is another example of this. He was a great horse and will be missed by his owners and Mary King but it died doing something it was happy doing.

You think it's sick, you were there so you know what happened...and you still watched it right until the end? If you think posting the video is sick, what does that say about you? I have no problem with these sorts of videos on YouTube. People can watch and decide for themselves whether or not Mary was pushing the horse unfairly (IMO: No). Without this sort of proof of what actually happened rumours and stories can fly so much worse.

Horses are not designed to spend most of their time off their feet. Serious problems can occur if they must remain recumbent for long periods of time. Even if they are able to stand, they will not want to put weight on the injured leg, and this many time leads to injury on the opposite leg because it is overstressed. In other words: A costly surgery, with long recovery time, and a fairly bad chance the horse will get thru it. Sad, you'd think by this day & age we'd be better at it.

I dont think this is necessarily the case. I think the main problem is that not only is the surgery expensive, but the prognosis is usually very poor. Even if surgery goes well, there are many complications that can occur afterwards. There are plenty of horses that go on extended stall rest (i.e. suspensory injury) that come out of it OK. I hate extended stall rest, but for soft tissue injuries, its usually the best route. Broken bones are a whole 'nother ball game, however.

Most event horses I know get turned out 10-12 hrs/day. Mine are out 24/7. Sure, not all of them are, but you cant make accusations like your own. Who are you to say whether this horse had a good life? You know nothing about how he was kept or handled. Mary King loved this horse, I'm sure she wanted him to be happy and comfortable.

No. This is NOT eventing. This is a disgrace. Cavvy wasn't the only accident on course, just the only death. If all but 6 horses fall on course or fail to finish, there's something wrong with the COURSE.

When the riders end up getting trampled buy the horses that means the poor horses are saying: "Thanks for Nothing!" The reason it says that is because the riders just push and push but don't release. But also the reason they get trampled is because thats where they are going in the event of a fall, most likely under or over the horse. And look at all that stress the horses have to put up with! What about the horses legs/joints? OUCH!! Poor horses!

Check 1:18, thats really bad.. I hate cross country they make the horses go over ridiculous jumps that the horses shouldn't even be jumping over! All the jumps are crazy! I'm sure the rider wouldn't want to jump them! People shouldn't push horses out of their limits, even though it looks like it's not it still is if you had common sense you would know, people work their horses for money, it's shameful. I don't care if whoever reads this likes cross country, or not, I don't care.
